James Gunn is busy at work on Man of Tomorrow, the highly-anticipated sequel to Superman<\/a>. Amid filming for the superhero film, the writer-director has teased some narrative details as well as a first-look at a major villain.<\/p>\n

The upcoming film<\/a> sees David Corenswet reprise his role as the titular hero, with the figure continuing to balance his duties with his day-to-day life as Clark Kent. He also faces a new threat from arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult).<\/p>\n

Ahead of the film’s proposed release<\/a> in July 2027, Gunn has shared a first-look image of the supervillain from the set, and it’s safe to say that fans of the DC Universe are very excited by what it entails.<\/p>\n

In the picture, which Gunn posted on his Instagram<\/a> account, Hoult’s Lex can be seen inside his iconic war suit, indicating that he’s got some extra firepower for his next fight with his adversary. <\/p>\n

“Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn wrote in the caption on the post, while the official account for DC Studios responded in the comment section: “Lex suit loading\u2026 \ud83e\udd16.”<\/p>\n

Several excited fans took to the comment section too, with one writing: “Finally, after so many years, I wanted to see this and it came true.” Gunn, the co-CEO and co-chairmen of DC Studios, replied: “Thought I’d surprise you guys.”<\/p>\n

The filmmaker, who previously worked with Marvel on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, also teased some plot details for Man of Tomorrow. In a post on Instagram Threads<\/a>, Gunn was asked about when the sequel was set.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know if you didn’t answer this or if you can also speak up. But how long after Superman will MoT take place?” asked the fan, with the writer-director explaining that it would take place in “real-time”, meaning the plot jumps forward two years.<\/p>\n

In addition to Corenswet and Hoult, the returning cast<\/a> for Man of Tomorrow includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced. Lars Eidinger and Aaron Pierre, meanwhile, are newcomers to the franchise.<\/p>\n

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released on 9 July 2027, while Superman is streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW.<\/p>\n
