Services are also managing high levels of ambulance arrivals and increased demand linked to factors such as recent hot weather, which has particularly affected older and more vulnerable people.<\/p>\n<p>Hospitals are taking additional steps to maintain safe care, including reopening winter ward capacity. Urgent Treatment Centres and ambulance services are also experiencing sustained demand, with staff working hard to prioritise the most seriously ill patients.<\/p>\n<p>Gemma Whysall, Director of Commissioning at NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board, said on 3 June: \u201cPeople should continue to come forward for care if they need it but the current level of demand means our urgent and emergency care services are under exceptional strain, and waits are longer than usual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a wide range of alternative NHS services available and NHS 111 can help direct you to the most appropriate service for your needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Advertisement &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.specsavers.co.uk\/stores\/westbridgford?utm_source=westbridgford_wire&amp;utm_campaign=westbridgfordwire_local&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_content=baa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0-1.jpeg\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rushcliffe.gov.uk\/homealarms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Home-Alarms-Wire-Banner.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are more ways than ever before to contact your GP practice. Visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/111.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">111.nhs.uk<\/a> or phone 111, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for advice, appointments or to get directed to the most appropriate service.<\/p>\n<p>Pharmacy<\/p>\n<p>Local pharmacies can help with less urgent conditions and may be able to offer treatment and some prescription medicine without you needing to see a GP (this is called Pharmacy First).<\/p>\n<p>Conditions they can treat through Pharmacy First are:<\/p>\n<p>earache (aged 1 to 17 years)impetigo (aged 1 year and over)infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)shingles (aged 18 years and over)sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)sore throat (aged 5 years and over)urinary tract infections or UTIs (women aged 16 to 64 years)<\/p>\n<p>Some pharmacies open late (until midnight) and at weekends.
