few.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpygl7dx00473j6so0lu1ydo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt\u2019s just in this place where we\u2019re really resetting a new normal, what normal is going to look like, and what a \u2018good jobs report\u2019 will look like moving forward, which is different than it was pre-pandemic and from historical trends,\u201d said Nicole Bachaud, a labor economist at employment site ZipRecruiter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Here are a few other dynamics to keep in mind and keep an eye out for in Friday\u2019s report:\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpygun08004p3j6srgge99ve@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/02\/economy\/labor-market-healthcare-job-callout\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Healthcare<\/a> and social assistance \u2013 a sector buoyed by an aging population \u2013 has gone from driving job gains to propping up the entire labor market.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyia698004v3j6s5i4wyp1l@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The sector, one of the nation\u2019s largest, accounts for 15% of overall employment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyi4xcv004r3j6sgnbgu1yf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cMy concern for the last two years is how one-note the labor market was,\u201d Richardson said. \u201cBasically, all the job gains came from healthcare. Nothing in manufacturing. Construction ebbs and flows with cyclical interest rates. And no sense of broad-based hiring.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyi7v8s004t3j6spqquhxsv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            That appears to be changing, Richardson said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyignmj00503j6sluv87iq6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            ADP\u2019s recent monthly employment reports, including one for May released Wednesday, showed that job gains are picking up across a wider array of industries in the private sector.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyiisjz00543j6s50vgm1y7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            When Friday\u2019s report is released, one metric to watch will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.b.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Diffusion Index<\/a>, which provides a measurement of job growth across major industries. A number greater than 50 indicates that more industries are adding jobs than shedding them.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyipg0100583j6se1dgkjdr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Wage gains have been slowing from their post-pandemic highs \u2014 but for the past three years, they were still outpacing inflation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyj05m3005a3j6svng9mfnu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            That changed in April, when the oil supply crunch from the US-Israeli war with Iran (and ensuing price shock) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/12\/economy\/us-cpi-inflation-april\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sent inflation to 3.8%<\/a>. Average hourly earnings that month grew at a rate of 3.6%.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyj1sn0005c3j6sv81y4fap@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cAn uptick in wage growth would be good news for workers struggling with higher prices, but it would also push the [Federal Reserve] in the direction of rate hikes,\u201d Dean Baker, senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, wrote in a note Wednesday.\n    <\/p>\n<p>        What is the impact of high gas prices, tech layoffs and Spirit\u2019s bankruptcy?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyejg2a00273j6sk055qzud@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Businesses appear to be treating the spike in fuel prices as a temporary surge versus a sustained change, ZipRecruiter\u2019s Bachaud said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyjgk17005v3j6sqb8yvy0o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            As such, there\u2019s not expected to be a broad or discernible pullback in hiring or a rise in layoffs, she said, adding that industries to watch will include transportation, retail and construction.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/gettyimages-2274586037.jpg\" alt=\"Spirit Airlines planes sit parked at the Phoenix Goodyear Airport on May 8, 2026, in Arizona. The outplacement and coaching firm tracked 97,006 job cuts announced at US-based firms, up 16% from April and 3% from May of last year.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbis00053j6sm28x0lf8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The lion\u2019s share of the cuts was at technology firms, and artificial intelligence once again led the reasons for the planned reductions.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit00063j6srfe2f5ga@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            While mass layoffs, especially those attributed to AI, make the headlines, economists aren\u2019t sounding the alarm bells. They note that claims for unemployment benefits haven\u2019t accelerated dramatically and remain near historic lows.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpzhorph00013j6svaba8bo2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Last week, there were an estimated 225,000 first-time claims for unemployment insurance, an increase of 13,000 from the week before. Weekly claims data can be volatile, particularly around holiday weeks, so economists also track the four-week moving average, which ticked up to 214,750 claims. (For perspective, that average was 228,500 in the March 2020 week before the initial Covid-19 shutdown.)\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit00083j6sqzl2p961@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            AI adoption in the workplace remains \u201cvery early days,\u201d Bachaud said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit00093j6s2wz5wmhm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019ve yet to see any widespread job displacement or really widespread growth,\u201d she told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000a3j6sv74bbkrw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Rather, AI\u2019s fingerprints are showing up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/05\/22\/tech\/how-to-ai-proof-your-job\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shifting job skills<\/a> and the blurring of lines between different roles, she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000b3j6s6jre5c2k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The excitement around AI is moving faster than the reality of everyday businesses \u2014 and also companies\u2019 abilities to keep up, Bachaud said. Job offers for AI-specific roles, for example, have been rescinded more for any other job, she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000c3j6stugdo1b3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201c(Businesses) feel like they\u2019re already behind, and there\u2019s so much pressure to move quickly, but the hiring is still much slower,\u201d she said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/gettyimages-2279684297.jpg\" alt=\"Open AI CEO Sam Altman speaks with reporters after meeting with Sen. Altman met with Congressional leadership the day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order about artificial intelligence.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"5114\" width=\"7667\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000d3j6strgz5ui5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It can also explain some of the dissonance seen in the recent labor turnover data where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/02\/economy\/jolts-job-openings-layoffs-hiring-april\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">job openings spiked in April while hiring remained stunted<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000e3j6s30ing0rd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThere\u2019s a bit of a mismatch and skill level between what employers want to hire for and what job seekers are offering,\u201d Bachaud said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000f3j6swxn4ti3w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            That mismatch extends beyond AI, ADP\u2019s Richardson said, noting shortages in specialty trades where retirements far outpace the inflow of new workers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykfbit000g3j6sepna0ieu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe most powerful trend that you\u2019re seeing in the current labor market is demographics; it\u2019s swamping everything,\u201d Richardson said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not sexy and it\u2019s not making headlines in the same way [as AI].\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyewleg002l3j6sqzkt42vp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For much of the past year, hiring was stifled by high uncertainty about the effects of policy shifts, tariffs, interest rates and geopolitical concerns.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykhtzd000m3j6ssic4n7zm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            What resulted was a stilted pattern of hiring, Richardson said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyey9k7002n3j6sezk0r7bv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYou\u2019ll see strength, and then you\u2019ll see pullback tied to a headline,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd that part will last maybe a season, maybe a couple months, and then you\u2019ll see the hiring restart.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpyf24lp002r3j6s3lpiqura@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Uncertainty continues to have an effect on the labor market, but it\u2019s not outpacing businesses\u2019 desires to hire, said Eugenio Aleman, chief economist at Raymond James.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmpykjtil000p3j6sk0trrams@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOne reason is because there\u2019s less uncertainty about tariffs;
