The Black Crowes<\/a> frontman Chris Robinson has spoken for the first time after his on-stage comments during a recent show in Tampa, Florida, caused controversy.<\/p>\n At the concert, which took place on May 31st as part of their ongoing Southern Hospitality Tour, fans began to get riled up when a visual on the screen behind the group showed the band\u2019s Black Crowe character\u00a0dressed like Uncle Sam<\/a>.<\/p>\n In response, before the band could launch into their track \u2018She Talks to Angels\u2019, videos from the event show the crowd beginning to chant, \u201cUSA! USA!\u201d<\/p>\n Heeding the chant, Robinson addressed the audience<\/a>, stating bluntly, \u201cThanks for the geography lesson.\u201d As the chant persisted, the singer added, \u201cI don\u2019t know what you have to be so proud of right now\u201d.<\/p>\n Then, as pockets of the crowd began to exit the venue in response to his comment, he added, \u201cFor those of you fucking booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not fucking ignorant.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, in a new interview, Robinson has defended his right to express his political opinion, telling UCR<\/a> that the USA was founded on \u201cbeing able to say whatever you want,\u201d before adding, \u201cAnd that\u2019s both sides of whatever you pick.\u201d<\/p>\n Robinson is also not losing sleep over any potential backlash, calmly stating, \u201cBut be most assured, you know, whatever. It doesn\u2019t matter. In a week, something else will come up that [will stir up] the hornets\u2019 nest.\u201d<\/p>\n However, the singer did use the interview to clarify his prior comments and ensure that they weren\u2019t interpreted as disrespect to veterans, sharing, \u201cNo matter what I ever would say or do or feel about things, there\u2019s no way I would disrespect our veterans. I\u2019m a person that I wish we had moved along as a species not to have violence be the way that we resolve conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut for the people who\u2019ve put their lives on the line and made that sacrifice and dedication, I wouldn\u2019t do that,\u201d Robinson continued. \u201cI can see that for exactly what it is. Other than that, you know, I have to speak my mind.\u201d <\/p>\n The frontman also shared that \u201cI don\u2019t have an agenda or anything\u201d and his only mission is \u201cjust trying to make a soulful connection with people, and we\u2019ll continue to endeavour to persevere.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the incident in Tampa, The Black Crowes\u2019 tour has kept on rolling, visiting St Augustine on June 2nd, and will see them perform in Augusta tonight (June 4th).<\/p>\n Later this month, they will arrive in the UK for a performance at the Albert Hall in Manchester on June 25th, ahead of the State Fayre festival<\/a> in Chelmsford on June 26th, before visiting Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
