{"id":621463,"date":"2026-06-04T21:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T21:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/621463\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T21:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T21:32:09","slug":"fringe-programme-launches-featuring-notable-increase-in-overseas-performers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/621463\/","title":{"rendered":"Fringe programme launches featuring \u2018notable increase\u2019 in overseas performers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u2019s event features shows on topics including artificial intelligence, the manosphere, cults and social class.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a total of 53,884 performances during the Fringe, which runs between August 7 and 31.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 935 of the shows are Scottish.<\/p>\n<p>With performers from 71 countries represented at the Fringe, organisers say there has been a \u201cnotable increase\u201d in artists registering from overseas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2.84824849.jpg\" alt=\"A performer with the Fringe programme reflected in mirrors\" data-title=\"Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2026\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Jane Barlow\" data-usage-terms=\"\"  \/>The Fringe takes place from August 7 to August 31 (Jane Barlow\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>The Gilded Balloon Teviot is returning to this year\u2019s Fringe as a venue after the historic student union building was refurbished.<\/p>\n<p>Other venues include a \u201csauna theatre\u201d at Summerhall and the \u201cpianodrome\u201d \u2013 an amphitheatre made entirely of disuses pianos.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Lankester, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said: \u201cThank-you to the artists, venues, producers, technicians, promoters, support staff and audiences that bring their unique creative lens and exceptional energy to Edinburgh each August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin the number of productions registering this year, we\u2019ve seen a notable increase in artist registrations from overseas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tells us that, despite the economic and political headwinds the world is facing, the Fringe continues to be relevant and important to our artists, and taking part marks, for them, a significant moment and investment in their careers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s Fringe programme is packed with every kind of performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re asking audiences to mix it up and explore the unique, creative performances available at this Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom theatre or circus, or the best of comedy, music, dance, children\u2019s shows, magic or cabaret, there is something for everyone in Edinburgh this August.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This year\u2019s event features shows on topics including artificial intelligence, the manosphere, cults and social class.
