{"id":621970,"date":"2026-06-05T04:17:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T04:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/621970\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T04:17:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T04:17:15","slug":"assets-of-peter-murrell-revealed-after-snp-embezzlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/621970\/","title":{"rendered":"Assets of Peter Murrell revealed after SNP embezzlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  During a narrative hearing this week, his lawyer John Scullion KC suggested Murrell would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26157278.recap-murrell-court-details-lavish-spending-fake-invoices-revealed\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">able to repay the embezzled sum based on his assets<\/a>, which have been frozen as part of a restraint order from the Crown under the Proceeds of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/crime\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Crime<\/a> Act 2002.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  That restraint order has been lodged with the Register of Scotland and details of his assets, including the marital home he shares with his estranged wife <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/25072478.nicola-sturgeon-news-interviews-updates-former-fm\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nicola Sturgeon<\/a>, are included.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Details of the restraint order, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/news\/politics\/peter-murrell-assets-snp-embezzlement-8658320?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">first published by The Scotsman<\/a>, show that it is \u201cinterdicting him from dealing\u201d with his assets.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The listed assets include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26136791.peter-murrell-really-spent-snp-money-motorhome-cars-luxury-goods\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a3124,550 Niesmann+Bischoff motorhome<\/a>, seized from outside his elderly mother\u2019s home in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunfermlinepress.com\/local-news\/dunfermline-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dunfermline<\/a>, Fife.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A second listed asset states there is the \u201csum of \u00a3613,496.04&#8243; as the \u201cgross funds\u201d in two Legal and General pension accounts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Murrell\u2019s \u201cheritable property\u201d is also listed to the value of \u00a388,632 in the joint name of Peter Murrell and Nicola Sturgeon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It comes as The Herald revealed Murrell will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26163921.scotlands-legal-aid-rules-let-murrell-get-help-snp-embezzlement-case\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">still be able to access legal aid<\/a> despite the scale of his frozen assets.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Scottish Legal Aid Board is unable to clawback criminal legal aid, with Murrell granted the taxpayer-funded support last year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  During the narrative hearing, senior counsel Mr Scullion said: \u201cThe value of the property in terms of restrained petition suggests there will be repayment of embezzlement in this case.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Former first minister Ms Sturgeon told the BBC\u2019s Laura Kuenssberg she would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26152755.sturgeon-refuses-apologise-peter-murrell-scandal\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">not \u201ccontribute in some way\u201d<\/a> to the reimbursement.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThere will now be, I would imagine, a legal process to recover the money from Peter that he embezzled from the SNP,\u201d she said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThat will be a legal process. I am not guilty of that embezzlement so nothing that belongs to me should be part of that, rightly. But will that process impact on me? Of course it will.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It comes as the SNP lodges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/news\/26166038.snp-pursue-lengthy-legal-action-peter-murrell-400k-embezzlement\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">legal action against Murrell<\/a> in an attempt to recoup the funds.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Swinney confirmed to journalists on Thursday that some SNP members had requested a refund after initially donating to the party\u2019s independence fund.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Police Scotland will also not investigate new complaints into the SNP\u2019s accounts after independence activist Sean Clerkin reported the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/first-minister\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">First Minister<\/a> yesterday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  His complaint centred around Mr Swinney\u2019s confession that more than \u00a3600,000 raised for independence campaigning between 2017 and 2019 had been spent on \u201cgeneral party campaigning\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But Police Scotland confirmed there will be no new probe, similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/operation-branchform\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Operation Branchform<\/a>, the investigation into how SNP finances earmarked for independence campaigning, were spent.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThat money is part of the resources that are available within the Scottish National Party to support its independence objectives and the SNP is a party of independence and that\u2019s what we campaign for,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe just campaigned for independence at the Scottish Parliament elections.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"During a narrative hearing this week, his lawyer John Scullion KC suggested Murrell would be able to repay&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":621971,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[49,50,51,47,52,48],"class_list":["post-621970","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-headlines","tag-news","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/621970","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=621970"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/621970\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/621971"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=621970"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=621970"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=621970"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
