One of the greatest traditions in college football is the rolling of Toomer\u2019s Corner. For those unfamiliar with the tribal customs of the SEC, this is when Auburn<\/a> fans descend upon the northeast corner of campus to drape the large oak trees in rolls upon rolls of toilet paper.<\/p>\n

The tradition is typically associated with the Tigers<\/a>\u2019 football team. It originally began in the early 1960s when Toomer\u2019s Drug Pharmacy would cover the powerlines and nearby trees in ticker tape to signal an Auburn road victory. The celebration continued through the decades and into the modern era, a period that saw Auburn football<\/a> became the school\u2019s most successful athletic export. But with the football program ailing, fans have now turned to the men\u2019s golf team\u2014which clinched its second national championship in three years<\/a> on Wednesday\u2014for their rolling fix. That was the scene at Toomer\u2019s Corner on Wednesday night after the top-ranked Tigers, led by the world\u2019s no. 1 amateur, Jackson Koivun, beat UCLA<\/a> 4-1 to claim their second title in the NCAA\u2019s match-play era. Not so long ago, the rolling of Toomer\u2019s Corner was on life support after a disgruntled Alabama football<\/a> fan poisoned the trees following Auburn\u2019s victory in the 2010 Iron Bowl. The original trees eventually died and were removed, but new ones were planted and after a brief sabbatical, rolling returned to landscape of college sports.<\/p>\n

Certainly, the demographic of Auburn\u2019s golf rollers appears to skew a lot older and a little less rowdy than their pigskin counterparts, but we appreciate their spirit regardless. Now the question is whether Tigers coach Nick Clinard can convince Koivun to come back for one more year<\/a>. If so, expect another Charmin shortage in east Alabama<\/a> again next June.<\/p>\n
