Huddersfield Giants have signed Niall Evalds to a two-year contract. The 31-year-old, who turns 32 next month, originally joined the West Yorkshire side from Hull KR on loan for the season but has now penned a permanent deal \u2013 and insists that was always the plan.<\/p>\n
Born in nearby Halifax, Evalds will look to recover from an injury-hit year with a strong pre-season campaign in the autumn. Enduring a tough run, the pacey full-back broke his foot in March before suffering a calf injury last month.<\/p>\n
But his future is now signed and sealed, with the player out of contract at Rovers at the end of the season. He played his part in the Robins’ run to the Super League Grand Final last year, with the player now hoping to reignite his career under Luke Robinson next year. He has previously played at Salford Red Devils and Castleford Tigers.<\/p>\n
Speaking on his new deal, Evalds said: “When I signed on loan, it wasn\u2019t with a short-term view; it was to be at Giants for the next few years. I want to focus on getting back to enjoying it and doing what I can do.<\/p>\n
“The start of my Giants career hasn\u2019t gone particularly to plan, but I\u2019m here for the longer term and I\u2019m working really hard in rehab to get back stronger for next year.<\/p>\n
“I look at my time with KR and I had an undisrupted pre-season and a really good year off the back of that, so my focus is to nail pre-season and not miss any sessions through injury. That\u2019s where the relationships are made in pre-season and the foundations are built to avoid what I\u2019ve been through this year.<\/p>\n
