Continuing adverse weather conditions forced Primavera Sound 2026<\/a> to cancel opening night sets by Massive Attack<\/a>, Bad Gyal<\/a>, and Doja Cat<\/a>, in addition to previously announced cancellations.<\/p>\n

Yesterday (Thursday June 4) was the opening day of the festival at the Parc del F\u00f2rum in Barcelona, which is scheduled to run until Sunday (June 7). The Cure<\/a>,\u00a0The\u00a0xx<\/a>,\u00a0Gorillaz<\/a>,\u00a0My Bloody Valentine<\/a>,\u00a0Addison Rae\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Skrillex<\/a> are topping the bill, but Thursday\u2019s headliners were forced to cancel.<\/p>\n

Earlier that evening, the big screens on the main stages showed a warning message, explaining that \u201cdue to adverse weather conditions, performances on this stage have been temporarily suspended.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease remain calm and follow the instructions of the festival\u2019s security and staff teams,\u201d it continued. \u201cStay tuned to the festival screens and official channels for further updates. Thank you for your cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amid heavy rain, areas of the festival site were closed, including the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages, while at 9:30pm local time, the festival officially announced that Alex G\u2019s set on the Revolut Stage had been cancelled, as had DeMarco\u2019s on the Occident Stage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just before midnight, an Instagram post from the festival revealed that performances from Massive Attack, Bad Gyal and Doja Cat would also not go ahead. The reason given was \u201cadverse weather and technical conditions.\u201d Other parts of the festival continued, while some stages reopened later that night.<\/p>\n

Doja Cat commented on the situation on X (formerly Twitter), saying: \u201cBarcelona I am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it\u2019s just not safe enough to continue the show tonight. I\u2019m so sorry that this is how this shit has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you.<\/p>\n

Videos were shared on social media of festival goers attempting to shelter from the rain, as well as Geese<\/a> performing earlier in the evening during the downpour.<\/p>\n

Primavera\u2019s announcement was met with criticism from fans, who accused them of not communicating the situation through the festival\u2019s screens, meaning they were going back and forth to the festival site.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you can use stage screens for advertisements, you could use them for announcements,\u201d wrote one, while another said: \u201cWorst Primavera ever. Making people come back only to cancel an hour later is completely unacceptable. My disappointment is beyond words.\u201d One commenter quipped: \u201cEven my ex had better communication skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

An official statement<\/a> from the festival shared today on their website said that \u201cfestival organisers worked determinedly alongside the Massive Attack, Doja Cat and Bad Gyal teams to ensure that the performances on the Estrella Damm and Revolut stages could resume later that night,\u201d attempting to move the slots to other stages before further weather issues made than impossible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand and share the frustration and disappointment of the audience regarding this situation,\u201d the statement continued, before sharing details about refunds for Thursday\u2019s tickets.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to BBC Weather,<\/a> Friday\u2019s weather is set to be more clement, with a 29 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon, but zero thereafter.<\/p>\n
