After weeks of speculation, Ubisoft has finally confirmed the release of Rayman Legends Retold, which is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1.<\/p>\n
The game\u2019s reveal showcased a charming visual style that excited fans and renewed hopes for the future of one of gaming\u2019s most iconic characters, who has gone years without receiving a major new entry. Gounon began by reflecting on the circumstances surrounding the release of Rayman Origins, noting that the industry at the time was embracing \u201cmaller games, more agile 2D, multiplayer\u201d such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. He believes the current market is now more favorable for a return to 3D platformers.<\/p>\n \u201cI think what we\u2019re seeing now with Astro Bot, with new 3D platformers, there is a rebirth of the golden age of PS2-ish platformers\u201d he explained. \u201cIf you look back at the franchise, it\u2019s basically Rayman 2, Rayman 3 that were in that era.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe think it might be the time to come back with more adventurous 3D Rayman games,\u201d Gounon continued. \u201cWe are starting with that project [Rayman Legends Retold], that\u2019s what we are aiming for, in a way, and what we want for Rayman, and we think it\u2019s a good match, both for the players and the market.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked directly whether the team\u2019s next step for Rayman would be a return to the fully 3D style seen in previous entries, Gounon replied: \u201cthat\u2019s the plan! That will be the plan if everything goes well!\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cWe are setting up a new team. We\u2019re resetting the foundation for the franchise. That\u2019s why also being \u2013 even though we are a bit more than a remake \u2013 being partially a remake, there are some solid grounds where we felt it was a good way to bring back the franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n While an official announcement for a new 3D Rayman game has yet to happen, fans can still look forward to Rayman Legends Retold on Nintendo Switch 2.
