\n Works to boost capacity, accessibility, and the user experience at Watford Leisure Centre \u2013 Central, in Peace Prospect off Hempstead Road, are due to start on Monday (August 18).\n<\/p>\n
\n Once complete, it will offer a mind and body studio, a multi-purpose fitness studio, and a spin studio featuring 30 Keiser bikes allowing for a wider variety of group exercises.\n<\/p>\n
\n (Image: Everyone Active) The main gym will more than double in size from 70 to 120 stations, offering the latest Life Fitness equipment.\n<\/p>\n
\n Every area \u201cfrom functional training and free weights to resistance and cardio\u201d is set to be expanded and improved.\n<\/p>\n
\n The number of pieces of equipment which has been IFI accredited, meaning it is certified as fully inclusive for both disabled and non-disabled people, will nearly double.\n<\/p>\n
\n (Image: Everyone Active) The changing rooms are also being refurbished and a new reception will be installed to offer grab-and-go catering.\n<\/p>\n
\n Work on the main gym area will begin in late September 2025 and be carried out in two stages.\n<\/p>\n
\n (Image: Everyone Active) The phased approach means half the gym will remain open for members to use throughout the first phase and the new gym area will open while the existing area closes during the second phase.\n<\/p>\n
\n Completion is scheduled for March 2026.\n<\/p>\n
\n (Image: Everyone Active) The leisure centre\u2019s contract manager Iain Milton added: \u201cMembers of Watford Leisure Centre \u2013 Central already have access to Watford Leisure Centre \u2013 Woodside as part of their membership, so can utilise this centre during the project period if preferred.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n The project is funded by Watford Borough Council\u00a0\u2013\u00a0contributing up to \u00a32.5 million\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and Everyone Active\u00a0\u2013\u00a0putting in approximately \u00a3560,000.\n<\/p>\n
\n Councillor Tim Williams, who is responsible for neighbourhood services and parks, said: \u201cIt\u2019s great to see work starting soon on the improvements to Watford Leisure Centre \u2013 Central.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThis marks a significant investment in one of our town\u2019s most valued community facilities.\n<\/p>\n
