Russell T Davies has sparked fresh questions about whether he has already left Doctor Who after interviews linked his BBC dispute over X directly to the sci-fi series.<\/p>\n

Davies, who returned as Doctor Who showrunner in 2021, previously revealed that he had recently run into \u201cvery big problems\u201d at the BBC.<\/p>\n

Speaking to HuffPost UK<\/a>, Davies said he had \u201crefused to be part of any press release that went on Twitter\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, I\u2019m taking my name off anything [that goes on Twitter\/X],\u201d he said, arguing that \u201cthere is no way a publicly-funded corporation should be posting on a hate site\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the time, Davies did not specifically say the dispute related to Doctor Who. But a new interview<\/a> with The i Paper now appears to make that connection explicit.<\/p>\n

The publication reported that Davies \u201chates the way the online conversation has spun out of control so much that when he worked with the BBC on Doctor Who, he demanded that they stop publicising the show on X\u201d.<\/p>\n

That wording is potentially notable for two reasons. First, it appears to connect his \u201cvery big problems\u201d at the BBC to Doctor Who\u2019s publicity strategy. Second, it refers to his time on the programme in the past tense.<\/p>\n

The phrasing comes at a time when the future of the show, and Davies\u2019 place in it, remains unclear.<\/p>\n

Davies told The i Paper: \u201cIt\u2019s a public service broadcaster posting on a hate platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt\u2019s not the town square it pretends to be. It\u2019s a privately owned hate platform, owned by a megalomaniac [Elon Musk] who is pushing ill on many of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speculation has also been fuelled by Davies\u2019 recent comments on the Full Disclosure podcast with James O\u2019Brien. Asked what he was doing next, he replied: \u201cI don\u2019t actually know\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

He mentioned a 2027 stage version of It\u2019s A Sin, then added: \u201cI\u2019m kind of not rushing to write the next thing\u2026 I won\u2019t be back filming anything until next year, really.\u201d<\/p>\n

That comment is striking because Doctor Who\u2019s previously announced Christmas special would need to film this year if it were to air in December 2026.<\/p>\n

A recent report<\/a> claimed the festive special is in doubt, with the show reportedly struggling to lock down an actor to play the Doctor.<\/p>\n

Davies has, however, insisted that an announcement is coming. Speaking on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show, he said there was \u201ca press release lumbering through the BBC\u201d and promised \u201csome sort of press release\u201d in \u201cabout a week or two weeks\u201d.<\/p>\n

That suggests Davies remains close enough to the process to know an announcement is being prepared.
