Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Her last appearance at the US Open came three years ago at Pebble Beach, where she posted back-to-back 79s without a single birdie.<\/p>\n<p>Wie West, 36, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/08\/sports\/michelle-wie-wests-lpga-return-got-very-dark-during-brutal-round\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">came back to the tour for the Mizuho Americas Open in May<\/a>, which she hosts, and for this U.S. Women\u2019s Open. The Riviera Country Club is where Wie West\u2019s father-in-law, NBA icon Jerry West, was a member before his death at 85 in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Wie West has come a long way since turning pro just before her 16th birthday in 2005. She\u2019s won five professional titles on the LPGA tour, including her lone major in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>She married Jonnie West in 2019 and is now mother to two children, daughter Makenna born in 2020 and son Jagger born in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>While Wie West didn\u2019t make the cut at Riviera, getting to play golf pain-free \u2013 and with her kids in attendance \u2013 was special.<\/p>\n<p>Makenna ran down the green as soon as Wie West was done for a hug.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39596675\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-2279901829.jpg\" alt=\"A female golfer in a light blue outfit holding up a golf ball.\" class=\"wp-image-39596675\"  \/>Michelle Wie West of the United States acknowledges the crowd on the 18th green during the first round of the U.S. Women\u2019s Open presented by Ally 2026 at Riviera Country Club on June 04, 2026 in Pacific Palisades, California.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad that she\u2019s able to play pain-free golf, especially,\u201d said longtime friend Jessica Korda, <a href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/lpga\/2026\/06\/05\/michelle-wie-west-hits-bombs-us-open-2026-bids-farewell\/90428268007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to USA Today<\/a>. \u201cIt was always a really important thing for her to be able to hold her kids, and then be able to do sports with them as they get older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband and I were talking about this a lot, I\u2019m going to try to live by the words I tell my daughter; I always tell her before a game or a tournament, whatever, I say I don\u2019t care about the results, all I care about is a good attitude and that you try your hardest,\u201d Wie West said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, I would be lying to say I wasn\u2019t disappointed,\u201d she continued. \u201cI would have loved to make the cut today, grinded all day \u2026 But I had a blast, honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Michelle Wie West\u2019s comeback proved to be a brief one.
