Good food, easy conversation, maybe just enough wine to make the night feel a little less routine. But every so often, someone brings more than dessert to the table.

That’s the intriguing setup behind The Invite, a new A24 dramedy where a simple evening between two couples takes a sharp turn after one very unexpected proposal.

Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen star as a long-married San Francisco couple whose quiet night with their upstairs neighbors, played by Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz, slowly shifts from polite small talk into something much more uncomfortable.

The premise sounds simple. But simplicity is usually where these relationship comedies start getting a little dicey. When Norton and Cruz’s characters invite Wilde and Rogen’s buttoned-up couple into a night of unexpected intimacy, everyone tries to stay charming. The conversation flows… slowly. Then the two couples begin contemplating the eyebrow-raising invitation of a foursome, dragging everyone’s boundaries, insecurities, and private frustrations straight into the open.

Based on Cesc Gay’s 2020 Spanish comedy Sentimental, also known as The People Upstairs, this American remake comes from a script by actress Rashida Jones and actor Will McCormack, the same writing team behind the 2012 rom-com Celeste and Jesse Forever. Wilde also steps behind the camera, directing for the third time following the twisty thriller Don’t Worry Darling and the raunchy teen comedy Booksmart.

With Rogen and Wilde as the hosts and Norton and Cruz as the upstairs neighbors who know exactly how to disrupt the evening, this looks like the kind of dinner-party movie where the real action happens between the pauses and glances, as the night becomes increasingly awkward and, hopefully for the audience, hilariously entertaining.

Following a strong Sundance debut that sparked a bidding war eventually won by A24, The Invite is now slated to open in select theaters June 26th before expanding nationwide July 10th. Watch it with a friend or two… or three.

The ice age didn’t last forever… the real one, not the animated franchise. In fact, despite the last installment arriving nearly ten years ago, another Ice Age movie is officially heading our way, proving once again that some franchises are simply too stubborn to go extinct.

But this time, things aren’t getting colder. They’re getting much, much hotter. Boiling, even.

Ice Age: Boiling Point brings Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Buck, Scrat, and the rest of the herd back for a new prehistoric adventure that sends them far from their usual frozen comfort zone and straight into the dangerous Lost World. So yes, the gang that was built for snow, ice, and subzero chaos now has to deal with dinosaurs, lava, volcanoes, and what sounds like the worst possible vacation package in prehistoric history.

Ray Romano returns as Manny, with John Leguizamo back as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Queen Latifah as Ellie, and Simon Pegg as Buck. And, of course, Scrat is expected to continue his eternal war with that cursed acorn, because apparently even volcanic danger can’t stop one squirrel from his life’s true calling.

Full plot details are still under wraps, but the teaser makes the direction pretty clear: the herd is heading into hotter, stranger, and more dangerous territory than usual. When they go low, you go high. But at times of great adversity and social disorder, sometimes fighting fire with fire is the only path forward.

In the upcoming historical drama-thriller By Any Means, the FBI comes up with an unconventional plan to push back against the disgusting racist violence gripping 1960s Mississippi: they decide to bring the mob in for a little muscle… and a whole lot of fire to match the hate.

Inspired by true events, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, of Wonder Man and Watchmen fame, stars as Wayne Strider, a young Black FBI agent sent to 1960s Mississippi to investigate a wave of brutal killings targeting civil rights leaders. But when the Bureau fails to pursue justice inside a system compromised by racism and fear, the agency turns to a highly unorthodox solution: bringing in notorious mafia hitman Gregory Scarpa to help Strider push back against white supremacist violence with methods far outside the normal rulebook.

Mark Wahlberg, oddly donning a large prosthetic nose but still packing plenty of muscle, takes on the role of Scarpa, the infamous New York mob enforcer of the Colombo crime family, famously nicknamed the Grim Reaper and the Mad Hatter. His style of business? Extremely deadly. His method of interrogation? Even deadlier.

Which makes him the most unlikely FBI collaborator the Bureau has ever seen, and for Abdul-Mateen’s Agent Strider, a wild card who might be just as dangerous as the men they’re hunting.

Strider and Scarpa are divided by race, background, ideology, and probably every personal code imaginable. But in this story, they find themselves moving toward the same target: the men responsible for terrorizing Black communities and civil rights leaders in the American South, including Vernon Dahmer, the civil rights leader and voting-rights activist played by Giancarlo Esposito.

The supporting cast includes Nicole Beharie, Josh Lucas, LisaGay Hamilton, LaChanze, Ethan Embry, and Esposito, giving the film a strong ensemble around its central pairing of Abdul-Mateen and Wahlberg as two men who might not see eye to eye but understand that the usual rules are not enough.

Elegance Bratton, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the semi-biographical Marine boot camp drama The Inspection, has been tasked with helming this searing historical thriller, which seems reminiscent of films like Mississippi Burning and, oddly enough, maybe not intentionally, Green Book.

Written by Sascha Penn, By Any Means is due to open in theaters September 4th.

Leave it to Eli Roth to take something as sweet and innocent as the neighborhood ice cream man and turn it into a blood-splattered reason to never chase down a truck again. The old phrase goes, “You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream.” But in Roth’s hands, that last part sounds less like a jingle and more like a warning.

Written, directed, and co-produced by Roth, Ice Cream Man is set in an idyllic summer town where things begin to fall apart after a mysterious ice cream vendor starts serving treats with deeply disturbing consequences. What begins as a sunny slice of small-town nostalgia quickly devolves into something deeply sinister, as children line up for something sweet and end up getting more than anyone bargained for.

Ari Millen, best known for Orphan Black, stars as the unsettling Ice Cream Man, stepping into what looks like a new horror-villain role built around one of the most familiar figures in childhood suburbia. Because apparently, it wasn’t enough for horror to make us afraid of clowns, dolls, babysitters, camp counselors, and nice-looking houses. Now even the guy with the soft serve is suspicious.

Millen is joined by Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer, Charlie Storey, and Roth himself.

For Roth, this sounds like a return to the kind of visceral horror that helped define his early work with Hostel and Cabin Fever: simple setup, nasty escalation, and a familiar piece of everyday life twisted into something deeply unpleasant. And in this case, the Ice Cream Man isn’t serving ice-cold treats. He’s serving nightmares by the scoop.

Ice Cream Man arrives in theaters August 7th.

Here’s the real difference between Superman and Supergirl, other than the obvious: he’s the hopeful optimist, and she’s the hardened realist. They may be cousins with similar powers, but as heroes, they’re worlds apart. And honestly, Kara Zor-El doesn’t seem all that interested in living in Superman’s shadow.

So when Krypto, the only thing she truly cares about, is suddenly hurt, Kara does everything in her power to save his life. Because realist that she is, she knows hope alone won’t be enough to save her dog. Which, funnily enough, just might make DC’s Supergirl not only one of the most anticipated superhero movies of the summer, but also its most unexpected movie for dog lovers.

Milly Alcock takes on the lead role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. When her loyal companion Krypto — her last living connection to Krypton, the home she lost when everyone she loved was wiped away in an instant — is injured and poisoned, she tears across the galaxy to find the one person who can save him.

Here’s the thing: Kara isn’t exactly the bright, polished version of Supergirl some viewers may expect. She’s bitter, bruised, frequently hungover, and carrying enough grief to power a whole galaxy. So when the ruthless space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, shoots Krypto with a poisonous projectile and leaves him near death, Kara gets a very simple mission: find Krem, get the antidote, and make him regret every life choice that led him there.

Along for the ride is Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien orphan chasing her own revenge against Krem. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa enters the mix as Lobo, the cigar-chomping bounty hunter who looks ready to bring his own brand of trouble. And keep an eye out for David Corenswet, who reprises his role as Superman in a guest appearance.

Based on the acclaimed comic book miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, this new DC film follows the events of James Gunn’s 2025 Superman and aims to prove once again that the cousin of Kal-El was never meant to be a carbon copy. She’s a hero forged from a very different kind of pain.

Plus… hands off Krypto. That’s the rule.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl soars into theaters June 26th.

When the first Fall movie came out back in 2022, it became a surprise indie hit, earning a respectable $21.8 million worldwide at the box office and winning over critics for its sheer vertigo-inducing suspense and white-knuckle tension. So, a sequel was only inevitable. This time around, Harriet Slater stars as Jax, a grieving woman still haunted by the death of her sister Hunter, who sets out on a dangerous climb with Hunter’s old friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) to honor her memory. Big mistake! When a terrifying rockslide leaves them stranded on the perilous planks of Mount Kwan, 5,000 feet above the ground, the memorial trip turns into a brutal fight for survival. Directed by the Spierig Brothers, of Jigsaw, Daybreakers, and Predestination, this high-altitude thriller once again turns fear of heights into a full-body panic attack. Closure is hard enough on solid ground. Up there, it just might be deadly.

High school was miserable enough the first time around… but a second semester sounds downright cruel. This offbeat comedy asks a terrifying question: what happens when adulthood forces you to do it all over again? John Reynolds, who also wrote the script, and Sofia Black-D’Elia lead this awkward, nostalgia-soaked comedy as former classmates dragged back to North Meadows High years after a tornado derailed their graduation, leaving unfinished business, old rivalries, and decades of emotional baggage waiting in the hallways. Also starring Carmen Christopher, Jo Firestone, Gary Richardson, Rudy Pankow, Topher Grace, and Jackie Cruz, the film follows former classmates now juggling careers, failed relationships, mortgages, and the horrifying realization that high school social dynamics apparently have no expiration date. Directed by Marty Schousboe, of the Adult Swim series Joe Pera Talks with You, this comedy leans into deadpan absurdity while poking at nostalgia culture and the uncomfortable truth that growing older doesn’t always mean growing up.

Before slashers ruled the multiplex and horror became a franchise machine, the 1970s gave the genre some of its most dangerous, grimy, and nightmare-fueled nightmares. Directed by David A. Weiner, this extensive documentary from CreatorVC Studios turns back the clock to explore the films, filmmakers, and cultural fears that helped reshape horror into something darker, stranger, and harder to shake. From the crowd-funded team behind In Search of Darkness, Aliens Expanded, and The Thing Expanded, this deep-dive four-hour long horror doc cracks open the vault on a decade where the scares felt raw, restless, and way too close for comfort.

Tolerance gets tested fast when suspicion enters the room. Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve star as a Romanian-Norwegian couple who move with their family to her remote Norwegian hometown, only to find their new life unraveling after questions are raised about their behavior toward their children. As the family becomes the focus of mounting scrutiny, their friendship with a neighboring household gives way to distrust, judgment, and the brutal limits of a community that prides itself on openness. Written and directed by Cristian Mungiu, the Palme d’Or-winning filmmaker behind 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, this Norway-set drama looks ready to turn a quiet village into a pressure cooker of social suspicion and moral panic.

Winter already makes survival hard enough. Add stolen gold, a remote Union Army outpost, and a gang of vicious outlaws kicking down the door, and things get deadly fast. Mackenzie Foy stars as a young woman left as the lone caretaker of an isolated Civil War-era outpost when a stash of stolen treasure suddenly lands in her hands. As a gang of suspicious-looking men (led by Sean Bean) turns her home into a guarded stronghold, she has to rely on personal endurance and quick thinking to stay alive. Directed by John Suits and also starring Odeya Rush, Jack Kesy, Ty Simpkins, Martin Sensmeier, and Joe Pantoliano, this Western survival thriller looks ready to turn a frozen frontier hideout into one nasty game of cat and mouse.

Sometimes the dream of making movies comes with a tiny budget, a ticking clock, and a title that sounds suspiciously familiar. This comedic behind-the-scenes documentary follows filmmaker Anthony Frith as The Asylum, the notorious movie studio behind Sharknado and other cheaply made blockbuster knock-offs, gives him six days to direct a “mockbuster.” Directed by Anthony Frith himself, the behind-the-scenes documentary digs into the chaos, compromise, and strange creative pride of low-budget filmmaking, where ambition is big, money is small, and panic is practically part of the production schedule.

The road to Chang’an is paved with blood, betrayal, and a whole lot of bad decisions. Wu Jing stars as Dao Ma, a feared bounty hunter and wanted fugitive tasked with escorting the empire’s most wanted man across a brutal desert landscape crawling with rival warriors, officials, and hired killers. Directed by martial arts legend Yuen Woo-Ping and based on Xu Xianzhe’s manhua Biao Ren, this wuxia action epic co-stars Jet Li, Nicholas Tse, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Max Zhang, Kara Wai, and Zhang Yi, throwing loyalty, survival, and political intrigue into one dust-choked fight for power.

Sometimes finding your rhythm means going back to where it all first started. This heartfelt indie dramedy from writer-director and star Lauren Caster follows Ro, a struggling young woman whose dance and acting career is running out of steam when she returns home and meets her biological father (played by Tate Donovan) for the first time. With Amy Aquino helping shape the family dynamics, the film spins an unconventional homecoming story into a warm look at identity, connection, and the people who help us get back on beat. Inspired by Caster’s own life, having been raised by her lesbian mother, conceived through insemination from an anonymous donor, and eventually meeting her “bio-dad,” the film turns one deeply personal story into a tender look at a family that might not fit in any traditional box but still finds its own rhythm.

In this ensemble dramedy, Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Åkerman, and Jess Weixler star as the cast of a career-defining romance film who reunite a decade later for a fan convention, only to have the schedule fall apart before it really begins. Rather than call it a wash, the group heads back to the film’s original locations, where talk of a possible sequel starts stirring up old unresolved feelings and the kind of behind-the-scenes tension no press junket can smooth over. Written and directed by Jamie Adams, and co-starring Craig Roberts and Dermot Mulroney, this film-reunion comedy looks ready to poke at the messy line between reliving nostalgia and finally dealing with the past.

Hollywood is already full of thieves, but these struggling dreamers are going straight for the gold. This showbiz heist comedy follows six beaten-down hopefuls who decide to rob the Oscars from the crooked producer who wrecked their careers. Starring Reno Wilson, Gregg Henry, Cedric the Entertainer, Sophia Ali, Suzy Nakamura, Jamie Lee, Jackson Pace, Dylan Playfair, and Adhir Kalyan, this one turns awards-season desperation into a comeback plan with very poor legal advice.

Some flights hit turbulence. This one appears to tear straight through reality. In this supernatural mystery thriller from director Steven Quale (Final Destination 5), Vero Airlines Flight 298 takes off from New Orleans to Seattle before a routine domestic trip turns into a full-blown airborne nightmare. As bizarre technological failures, surreal visions, supernatural events, and possible alien influences begin warping reality, the passengers are forced to fight for survival while trying to figure out what’s actually happening around them. Starring Tom Brittney, Holly White, Betsy-Blue English, Dane Whyte O’Hara, and Kaja Chan, this flight-from-hell thriller looks ready to make the friendly skies feel anything but friendly.

Some rescue missions are dangerous by design, but this one comes with a personal wound right at the center. Special Ops: Lioness actor LaMonica Garrett stars as an elite American Special Forces veteran whose past skills are forced back into action when his adopted daughter, an aid worker, is taken hostage by Russian mercenaries during the invasion of Ukraine. As the rescue mission drags him into a brutal landscape of fire and chaos, survival becomes less about protocol and more about how far one man is willing to go for family.

Some tennis rivalries end at the net. This intimate sports documentary looks back at Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova’s decades-long dominance of women’s tennis, tracing how fierce competition slowly became one of the sport’s most enduring friendships. From championship pressure to personal battles with cancer, this Netflix sports documentary serves up a story about greatness, resilience, and two legends who kept showing up for each other long after the final point.

Grief has a strange way of turning the ordinary into something alive. From acclaimed New Zealand filmmaker Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War and Oscar-nominated writer of The Truman Show), this heartfelt fantasy drama follows Tom, a 10-year-old boy who retreats into the imaginative world he once shared with his father after a sudden loss. As faces begin appearing in everyday objects, the film turns childhood imagination into a tender escape route through sadness, memory, and healing.

This is one airport shuttle ride that definitely deserves a bad review. Djimon Hounsou stars as a struggling driver who illegally agrees to take a stranded young passenger, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, from Minneapolis to Chicago. Directed by House of Sand and Fog helmer Vadim Perelman, this road thriller turns a desperate cash job into a nerve-racking trip where the meter keeps running, the danger keeps rising, and getting out may not be an option.

Grief gets complicated when the vacation comes with ocean views, unresolved feelings, and one distractingly philosophical surfer. Ayden Mayeri stars as June, who travels with her Persian-British mother Lela (Amira Casar) to the romantic Azores islands for a grief anniversary neither of them knows quite how to handle. As mother and daughter clash over how to mourn, flirt, remember, and move forward, a local surfer (José Condessa) pulls them into a tour that turns into something messier and more revealing. Written and directed by Lilian T. Mehrel in her feature debut, this light-and-dark comedy rides the awkward waves between loss and desire.

Nothing says awkward teamwork like rescuing your ex-wife with her new husband riding shotgun. This Korean action comedy follows a detective forced to partner with his romantic replacement after their shared connection is kidnapped. Directed by Park Gyu-tae and starring Jin Sun-kyu, Gong Myoung, Jeon So-min, Kang Hanna, Kim Ji-suk, Lee Da-hee, and Yoon Kyung-ho, this Netflix film turns jealousy, bruised egos, and high-speed chaos into one very uncomfortable rescue mission.

Reality gets slippery when grief, distance, and technology start sharing the same strange space. Set between the neon streets of Chongqing and the quiet ache of Paris, this meditative drama follows an ex-con searching for his estranged daughter while a Hong Kong gallerist wrestles with her ailing stepmother, played by iconic French actress Isabelle Huppert. Their lives meet inside the VR world of “Luz,” where a mystical deer reveals hidden truths and turns digital escape into an unexpected path toward connection.

Fame can fill stadiums, but it doesn’t always fix what’s broken. Inspired by a true story, this inspirational drama stars Robert Malcolm Cumming as Elijah Peel, a rock star whose life of addiction and excess comes crashing down after a heart attack nearly kills him. Also starring Evelyn Grace Kite, April Billingsley, Princess Elmore, and Kevin Sorbo, the film turns an unexpected bond with a young girl into a story of recovery, forgiveness, and the long road back from the edge.

Every great talent carries a few ghosts. This new documentary traces blues rocker Gregg Allman’s journey from a childhood marked by tragedy to the generation-defining sound he helped create with the Allman Brothers Band. Through archival recordings, electrifying performances, and a look at his headline-making marriage to Cher, the film explores how Allman’s music turned pain, trauma and authenticity into something that still echoes to this day.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.newsbeep.com/uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/43463d40-f9f3-4fc8-9250-e51d27140f7c_1200.jpeg" alt="Trailer Blitz!
