Rio Ngumoha’s lively performance for England on Saturday night has given new Liverpool<\/a> head coach Andoni Iraola much to ponder. The 17-year-old lit up a drab warm-up affair <\/a>against New Zealand in Tampa, ahead of the World Cup getting underway on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Liverpool were rocked recently after reports that Bayern Munich had declared an interest<\/a> in Ngumoha. However, the young star put speculation to one side to make his senior debut for England in the second half of the Three Lions’ 1-0 win.<\/p>\n

Ngumoha put in an impressive display on the right flank, a change from his usual position on the other side of the pitch, ultimately being named the player of the match. While not in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the tournament, the Liverpool winger was brought in for England’s final two friendlies before the competition gets underway.<\/p>\n

Iraola was confirmed as the Reds’ new boss earlier this week<\/a> following the decision to part company with Arne Slot. The teenager’s stunning performance on Saturday has sent the head coach a message that he simply cannot ignore: one of the Basque’s main priorities must be to keep Ngumoha at the club and maintain his integration into the first-team set-up next season.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic<\/a>, the Bundesliga giants have identified Ngumoha as their number one target <\/a>as they look to sign a new left winger to provide back-up to Luis Diaz, whom they signed from the Reds last summer.<\/p>\n

The report goes on to say that Bayern are yet to make a formal approach, although Ngumoha is said to be keeping informed of the German club’s interest in his signature. From Liverpool\u2019s point of view, the Reds have no plans to allow Ngumoha to leave.<\/p>\n

The youngster, who made 31 appearances for the Reds in 2025\/2026 under Slot, scoring three goals and laying on one assist, is simply too talented to let go. Iraola will have seen a glimpse of the youngster’s ability on Saturday evening, with the teenager’s unpredictable and aggressive second half showing serving as reminder to his new boss that he is a key part of Liverpool’s future.<\/p>\n

The nation’s media waxed lyrical about his England debut. The Standard said Ngumoha was “a livewire off the right flank, using his trickery and quick feet to good effect on his senior debut,” while Sky Sports hailed a “lively showing” from the Reds winger.<\/p>\n

England star Jude Bellingham was also impressed. In a video posted to the national team’s social media channels after the match, he showered Ngumoha with praise as he presented him with his first cap.<\/p>\n

“Congratulations on an amazing debut,” Bellingham said in the video. “I think we all enjoyed watching it, and obviously, you’re going to have a really bright future at your club and hopefully with us as well.”<\/p>\n

While the lure of Bayern is great no doubt, Ngumoha has already made his feelings for the Reds clear.<\/p>\n

In April, he told Sky Sports<\/a>: “Liverpool, for me, is the biggest club in the world. To start so young and the manager having belief in all the players and me, it’s great. So, I’ve got to keep working hard and keep pushing on and just go again.”<\/p>\n

Knowing that the winger holds Liverpool in such high esteem should ease any concerns over Bayern’s reported interest, but with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2028 and Iraola, and the decision makers at the club, must ensure the youngster sees his long-term future at L4.<\/p>\n
