The homeowner knew just the architecture<\/a> studio to carry that lineage forward: Kligerman Architecture & Design<\/a>, widely recognised for its fluency in traditional styles. But finding the right interior designer for the planned 15,000-square-foot construction proved more elusive. She met with several candidates, yet few offered the combination of creativity and rigour she was seeking. \u2018Building a house from scratch, it\u2019s like a million decisions \u2013 you need someone who is both creative and organised,\u2019 she says.<\/p>\n

For the dining room, Bryan O\u2019Sullivan designed a wood table with a fluted base and chairs upholstered in rosy-taupe tweed. He paired them with a set of Serin pendants from his own lighting collection. The wood-paneled walls were hand-painted with geometric patterns by Maria Redondo.<\/p>\n

Looking further afield, to Lutyens\u2019s homeland, she set her sights on London<\/a> and New York<\/a>-based HG101<\/a> designer Bryan O\u2019Sullivan<\/a> (who revamped the iconic Claridge\u2019s restaurant<\/a> in Mayfair, as well as the new Westmoreland Caf\u00e9 at the Frick Collection in New York), and sent him a message on Instagram<\/a>. \u2018Do you ever do projects in the US?\u2019 she asked, followed quickly by, \u2018Are you going to be in New York anytime soon?\u2019 As it happened, O\u2019Sullivan and his husband were due in the city<\/a> just days later.<\/p>\n

A brick-paved gallery runs parallel to the living room and the dining room. The oversize Arts and Crafts-style copper lanterns are from Jamb<\/a> in London, as is the wooden table.<\/p>\n

\u2018We hit it off straight away,\u2019 says the Irish designer. \u2018Once we went to see the project, we were blown away by Kligerman\u2019s drawings and by the site itself. It feels like you\u2019re in this expansive countryside.\u2019<\/p>\n
