Prince William is attempting to \u201cdraw a line under the past\u201d with his plan to cut off rent-free royals when he takes the throne, according to royal experts.<\/p>\n

William is reportedly considering\u00a0barring royal properties from being sublet as well as stopping non-working royals from enjoying rent-free accommodation.<\/p>\n

A source close to the Prince of Wales told The Sunday Times he wants to \u201cdo things differently\u201d in the wake of a National Audit Office (NAO) report into royal property arrangements which has provoked fresh public outrage.<\/p>\n

How weight-loss jabs could help reduce cancer risk<\/p>\n

Experts have urged GLP-1s be examined for use as potential \u201ccancer prevention agents\u201d after a new study linked the medication to a reduced risk of obesity-linked cancers.<\/p>\n

\nWhat you need to know\n<\/p>\n

A new study published in the Annals of Oncology found there was a greatly reduced risk of obesity-associated cancer with GLP-1 use.<\/p>\n

It examined data from more than 161,000 patients who were obese, did not have diabetes and had not been diagnosed with an obesity-related cancer.<\/p>\n

Half the group were given weight-loss injections, while the other half were given consultation on diet and exercise.<\/p>\n

Study co-author Professor Pedro Ramirez said the findings \u201cprovide early evidence that deserves further study in long-term clinical trials\u201d.<\/p>\n

The study found the overall cancer risk for those who took GLP-1s was reduced by 41 per cent. <\/p>\n

Experts urge further investigation<\/p>\n

For policymakers and other researchers, our study is a clear signal that GLP-1 RAs deserve serious investigation as cancer prevention agents, particularly as obesity-related cancers increasingly affect adults in their forties and fifties.<\/p>\n

Researchers examined data from more than 15,000 children taking part in the Children Of the 90s study<\/p>\n

It compared sleep data from six months to seven years old with depression symptoms between 12 and 22.<\/p>\n

The study found those who had \u201cpersistent\u201d poor sleep were almost twice as likely to report high levels of depression as a teen.<\/p>\n

It has emerged that the King\u2019s brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been able to earn rental income, estimated to be as much as \u00a3180,000 a year, from renting out cottages at the Royal Lodge estate despite only paying a \u201cpeppercorn\u201d rate for his own 30-room mansion.<\/p>\n

His daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, have also been able to live rent-free in their respective homes within royal palaces for more than 15 years, with the cost met directly from the Privy Purse \u2013 the monarch\u2019s private income derived from his Duchy of Lancaster estate.<\/p>\n

The Princesses, who are both non-working royals, have spent recent months being buffeted by the fallout from their parents\u2019 disgrace<\/a> in the wake of the stream of revelations related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

The ex-duke of York has retreated to the residence on the Sandringham Estate provided to him by his brother while his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is keeping a low profile abroad.<\/p>\n

The former Liberal Democrat minister Norman Baker said it was \u201coutrageous\u201d that Andrew had been able to gain rental income while at Windsor.<\/p>\n

He should now \u201cpay the money back to the Crown Estate\u201d, even if he complied with the terms of the lease said Baker, author of Royal Mint: National Debt.<\/p>\n

\u2018This sort of thing was expected from William\u2019<\/p>\n

While it is unclear if King Charles will take any further action immediately, his son appears to be keen to \u201cset his stall out early\u201d for his future reign, said royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe [Prince William] is doing it as tactfully as possible,\u201d he told The i Paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Audit Office report got a lot of publicity, but no one had actually done anything wrong, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor who was entitled under the lease to let those properties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem, that I think William is attempting to deal with, is a lot of these things began 20 or 30 years ago or even more, and this is the way things were handled.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember that each monarch inhabits or inherits the throne at a different time and the optics, during those various periods, obviously alter as society changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was acceptable X years ago, or done X years ago, can\u2019t be done now or shouldn\u2019t be done now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWilliam clearly wants to emphasise that things will alter when he is king, conscious of the fact that a lot is coming to light now which isn\u2019t appropriate in our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Prince and Princess of Wales have also made public some of their own living arrangements.<\/p>\n

The couple pay \u00a3307,500 a year in rent on their Grade II listed mansion in Windsor, although the Crown Estate, the property company owned by the Royal Family, paid out almost \u00a3400,000 for renovations in 2025.<\/p>\n

Fitzwilliams said he believes such arrangements are \u201cwhat should and will happen in the future with royal properties\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat William is doing is drawing a line under the past and I think it\u2019s very sensible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Beatrice and Eugenie rent \u2018a matter for the King\u2019<\/p>\n

Fitzwilliams added that he believes William \u2013 who has increasingly talked of the need for \u201cchange\u201d in the British monarchy \u2013 will be looking at further reforms in the future, especially as scrutiny increases.<\/p>\n

An inquiry into royal finances by Parliament\u2019s Public Accounts Committee is expected to present its findings in the summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will see much more of a lot of this \u2013 but it\u2019s far from clear how it\u2019s going to play out,\u201d Fitzwilliams added.<\/p>\n

The former prince remains the subject of a wide-ranging police investigation following fresh revelations in the Epstein files. He strongly denies any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

With more material potentially set to enter the public domain, Fitzwilliams said it remains a question for King Charles as to whether he should take action by ending favourable treatment for Beatrice and Eugenie immediately. <\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThey aren\u2019t paying anything and people will think that is excessive as they are not working royals.<\/p>\n
