{"id":629931,"date":"2026-06-09T21:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/629931\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T21:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:25:11","slug":"unions-snub-nigel-farages-invite-to-join-reform-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/629931\/","title":{"rendered":"Unions snub Nigel Farage&#8217;s invite to join Reform UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Labour is backed by 11 trade unions, representing four million workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Members of the unions are able to vote in Labour leadership contests, and union representatives sit on the party&#8217;s decision-making body, the National Executive Committee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Unions support Labour financially via membership fees, a proportion of which are given to the party via political funds, as well as dedicated donations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Labour received \u00a31.4m from seven different unions in donations in the first three months of this year, according to latest figures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cn4pkkpe9ppo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">published last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Unison gave \u00a3366,936 and Unite, despite having been very critical of the Labour government, donated \u00a3392,544. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Labour is backed by 11 trade unions, representing four million workers.
