Manchester United will look to strengthen their squad in the transfer window after a positive end to the season. Manager Michael Carrick oversaw a change in the team\u2019s fortunes to secure a Champions League<\/a> place.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s<\/a> return to European competition puts further emphasis on getting summer recruitment right as Carrick\u2019s side prepare to compete on multiple fronts. Midfield has emerged as a top priority, with United agreeing an early deal for Atalanta star Ederson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the club remain interested in other midfield targets. Nottingham Forest<\/a> star Elliot Anderson, who is set to play a key role for England at the World Cup, is one of several players to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, despite his club battling against relegation. Anderson is also the subject of interest from Manchester City<\/a>, with Forest reportedly valuing him at \u00a3100million.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, United are claimed to be eyeing a move for Leeds United<\/a> goalkeeper Karl Darlow. Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest stories surrounding Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Sir Jim Ratcliffe gives \u00a3100m transfer green light<\/p>\n

United<\/a> are reportedly optimistic of winning the race to sign Elliot Anderson, with club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe willing to meet the player\u2019s wage demands<\/a>. Forest previously rejected an opening offer from Manchester City<\/a>, who are understood to be in pole position for the midfielder.<\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> has reported that United feel they can convince Anderson to join Carrick\u2019s side ahead of City, who saw an opening \u00a380m offer rejected. It is claimed that United co-owner Ratcliffe is prepared to meet Anderson\u2019s wage demands if the midfielder opts to join the club.<\/p>\n

Anderson earns around \u00a3100,000 per week at Forest and would likely receive a 50 per cent increase from either of the Manchester clubs. West Ham<\/a> United\u2019s Mateus Fernandes is one of several other midfield targets also being considered by United.<\/p>\n

Surprise move eyed<\/p>\n

In another transfer development, United are said to be considering a move for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow<\/a>. The 35-year-old made 22 league appearances for Daniel Farke\u2019s team last season.<\/p>\n

The Daily Mail<\/a> reports that Darlow is viewed as a possible second-choice shot-stopper behind Senne Lammens. The Wales international would be a new back-up option as it is claimed Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana are not part of the club\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n

Darlow, who has also been linked with Tottenham<\/a> Hotspur, is set to be available as a free agent as he nears the end of his Leeds contract. Wolves<\/a> goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is also claimed to be on United\u2019s radar as a homegrown player, having started his career at the club.<\/p>\n
