Given the circumstances, it\u2019s easy to forgive Adam Svensson his moment of madness. But we can\u2019t imagine he got much sleep on Monday night.<\/p>\n
There was a stacked field looking to book one of the six spots available at the qualifier at Lambton Golf & Country Club<\/a> \u2013 around an hour from TPC Toronto, where this week\u2019s RBC Canadian Open will be held.<\/p>\n It was a good day for South Americans, with the Argentine pair of Emiliano Grillo and Alejandro Tosti, as well as Colombian Marcelo Rozo, punching their tickets to Shinnecock Hills<\/a>.<\/p>\n Behind them, though, a host of star names \u2013 eight, to be precise \u2013 were forced into a playoff for the three remaining spots.<\/p>\n At the first extra hole, William Mouw made birdie to take the first, with bogeys for Max Homa and Patrick Fishburn seeing them eliminated. <\/p>\n On the second, a John Parry birdie saw him through, while his fellow Englishman Jordan Smith made bogey to fall out.<\/p>\n That left Svensson, Max McGreevy and Matt Wallace in a three-man battle for the final spot. <\/p>\n At the third extra hole, McGreevy holed a birdie putt to take the sixth and final place, and with Matt Wallace already in for par, Svensson, who was yet to hole out, scooped up his ball marker thinking it was done and dusted.<\/p>\n Only it wasn\u2019t. <\/p>\n Because Svensson and Wallace were meant to continue playing to decide who was first alternate for the US Open \u2013 which is almost guaranteed a place in the field.<\/p>\n In picking up his coin, Svensson effectively conceded the first alternate spot to Wallace, and the Canadian will now have to sweat as a second alternate.<\/p>\n Interesting development at the Ontario @USOpenGolf<\/a> qualifier \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n On the third playoff hole, Max McGreevy took the final available spot and Adam Svensson picked up his ball marker.<\/p>\n In doing so, he conceded the first alternate position from the qualifier to Matt Wallace, who had\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/OqJjgdC9Kp<\/a><\/p>\n
