{"id":631844,"date":"2026-06-10T21:01:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/631844\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T21:01:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T21:01:10","slug":"parakeet-peeking-from-tree-wins-london-wildlife-photo-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/631844\/","title":{"rendered":"Parakeet peeking from tree wins London wildlife photo contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Santander Cycles and the Natural History Museum have awarded five budding photographers with annual Santander Cycles memberships and tickets to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ianvisits.co.uk\/calendar\/wildlife-photographer-of-the-year-3-424490\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wildlife Photographer of the Year<\/a> exhibition for their photographs of London\u2019s wildlife.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Celeste-Katz-Parakeet-Overall-Winner.jpg\" class=\"lightbox\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-90294 leaderimagetop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Celeste-Katz-Parakeet-Overall-Winner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" data-eio=\"p\"\/><\/a>Celeste Katz \u2013 Parakeet \u2013 Overall Winner<\/p>\n<p>The overall winning photograph, taken by Celeste Katz from Richmond, shows a ring-necked parakeet tucked inside a tree trunk. Judges praised the image for its creativity and technical skill.<\/p>\n<p>The photo will now be displayed at South Kensington tube station.<\/p>\n<p>Londoners were invited to photograph wildlife they encountered while exploring the city on Santander Cycles\u2019 two nature-themed Side Quest cycling routes. The competition attracted a wide range of entries showcasing animals thriving across London\u2019s parks, waterways and streets.<\/p>\n<p>A judging panel from Transport for London (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ianvisits.co.uk\/articles\/tag\/tfl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TfL<\/a>), Santander Cycles and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ianvisits.co.uk\/venues\/natural-history-museum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Natural History Museum<\/a> selected five winning photographers.<\/p>\n<p>The other winners were Faujdar Vipul, Erika Keenlyside, Olivia Nicolaou and Jon Pitman.
