The France boss has set a 25-match and 2,000-minute playing time limit, tallies both players have exceeded this campaign, which makes them exempt from selection.

That is according to French publication Sud Ouest, who state that while 2025 World Rugby Player of the Year nominee Bielle-Biarrey and fly-half Jalibert won’t be included in the squad, some of Bordeaux’s best could still be involved.

Club captain Maxime Lucu has expressed enthusiasm in featuring for France this July, and due to injuries during the season, the 33-year-old played 22 matches for UBB and 1,569 minutes. Jalibert racked up 27 appearances for Bordeaux (1,950 minutes) and Bielle-Biarrey 31 matches (2,295 minutes). Furthermore, it is reported that winger Bielle-Biarrey, who was voted as the Six Nations Player of the Championship for a second year in a row, has also decided to take the summer off.

Centre Yoram Moefana also has a good chance of making the squad that will face the All Blacks, Wallabies and Japan in July, the latter of which will also take place in Australia.

Sud Ouest also reports that veteran loosehead prop Jefferson Poirot could come out of international retirement this year after holding talks with Galthie during this season. The front rower hung up his Test boots in 2020, citing the desire to focus on his club and family.

The 33-year-old reportedly told the French head coach that he is open to returning to the international fold this year, a boost for Les Blues considering Cyril Baille’s decline and the lack of depth behind Jean-Baptiste Gros. Poirot earned 30 Test caps for Les Bleus before hanging up his boots and rediscovered some of his form this season with Bordeaux.

A further weakened team could arrive in New Zealand if Toulouse reach the Top 14 final with Galthie generally drawing a ton of his squad for the French giants including the likes of Antoine Dupont, Romain Ntamack, Anthony Jelonch, Francois Cros, Emmanuel Meafou, Thibaud Flament and many others.

All Blacks: New Zealand Rugby set ‘no later than’ deadline on Dave Rennie decision

Tier One strike rate XV: Springboks legend and All Blacks ‘anomaly’ included and why ‘astonishing’ Louis Bielle-Biarrey stands on his own

Controversial selection policy

France faced the All Blacks in three Test matches last year and lost the series 3-0 after controversially opting to send a severely understrength side to New Zealand. Galthie’s hand was largely forced because of policies agreed upon between the French Federation and the LNR – the governing body of the club leagues.

Although this policy has since changed, effectively enabling the head coach to pick whoever he wants for the mid-year Tests, according to Midi Olympique, that only applies to the latter two Tests against the Wallabies and Japan this year and does not apply to the clash in Wellington against the All Blacks.

“To be honest, I’m really disappointed,” Marshall said on The Breakdown ahead of the 2025 mid-year Tests.

“The side the French have bought is clearly underpowered and you’re talking about an average age of 25, and an average number of caps of 9.3, this is a side that has a very little amount of experience. There’s 49% of the players who have no caps at all, so it’s a development team with a few senior players involved.

“In my mind it’s complete BS, the way that they’re treating this tour, the way that the French always seem to have come up with excuses to not bring their top players. I feel they disrespect the international window.”

READ MORE: NZ Rugby set to bear brunt of France selection again despite policy change

Union Bordeaux Bègles’ early exit from the Top 14 will not result in two of France’s best talents…

[35
89610,819,348,3482,114050,214080,620,50,5903,101,18093,52175,56,54,55
post-632417","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-rugby","tag-fabien-galthie","tag-france","tag-home-page","tag-internationals","tag-louis-bielle-biarrey","tag-matthieu-jalibert","tag-new-zealand","tag-news","tag-rugby","tag-sports","tag-top-14","tag-toulouse","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
