\n\tEXCLUSIVE: Big news out of Germany<\/a> today, with showrunner and writer J\u00f6rg Winger joining Dynamic Television<\/a>\u2018s new German arm as President. <\/p>\n

\n\tAt the same time, thriller series Conspiracy<\/a>, which Winger co-created with Marco Girnth, is now in development at public broadcaster ZDF<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt Dynamic Television Germany, Winger will lead development of German and international scripted projects out of the country. He will report to Dynamic Television Managing Partners, Klaus Zimmermann and Daniel March.<\/p>\n

\n\tWinger and Girnth\u2019s new show Conspiracy\u00a0is pegged as an early step in Dynamic\u2019s plan to build a writer-led slate of scripted series and films out of Germany that have \u201cboth local authenticity and international reach.\u201d No details on the plot right now, with ZDF playing its cards close to its chest. <\/p>\n

\n\tSpeaking to Deadline at Seriencamp in Cologne, Winger said he hopes Conspiracy could follow in the footsteps of Deutschland 83<\/a> in being the next big franchise, with ambitions to make it a returning series. The thriller stars Deutschland 83\u2019s Svenja Jung. \u201cIt feels like a real family that is getting back together,\u201d added Winger.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe team have two more shows in development with streamers and Winger said they will search for \u201creally original ideas that we really believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNews of Winger\u2019s appointment will no doubt sweep through German TV industry event Seriencamp, which is into its final day. We\u2019ve been on the ground reporting on developments all week.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tWinger is one of Germany\u2019s highest-profile showrunners, having helmed the first 200 episodes of\u00a0crime series SOKO Leipzig. He is most widely known as the co-creator of the\u00a0Deutschland 83,\u00a0Deutschland 86\u00a0and\u00a0Deutschland 89\u00a0trilogy, which he made with his wife, writer Anna Winger. The shows were among the most internationally-successful German titles of the modern era, landing wide distribution and accolades including a Peabody Award, an International Emmy and multiple Grimme Awards. He also worked on HBO Europe\u2019s\u00a0Hackerville\u00a0and Disney+\u2019s\u00a0Sam \u2013 A Saxon.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJ\u00f6rg is one of the few creative talents in the German TV industry who consistently combines distinctive authorship with broad international appeal,\u201d said Zimmerman. \u201cAs Dynamic continues to expand its global production activity, his arrival marks an important step in our ambition to build a writer-driven slate of premium series from Germany with both local authenticity and international reach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWinger added: \u201cI\u2019m excited to join the team at Dynamic, an agile, independent and globally minded company with a strong creative vision for both German and international projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe revealed he has twice nearly joined his former colleague Zimmerman\u2019s Dynamic in the past. \u201cWe have similar tastes and vision for the stories we want to tell but we also have complementary skills,\u201d added Winger. \u201cSo three time\u2019s a charm and we\u2019re making it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe missing piece\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBar Apple TV\u2019s Drops of God, Zimmerman said it is difficult for Dynamic to afford big IP so it therefore has to be nimble, which suits Winger\u2019s style.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe don\u2019t have the capacity to spend millions on optioning books but in the end you have a pulse in the market and we are always focused on where we think the market is going,\u201d he added. \u201cThis is why when the bubble came four or five years ago we were not part of the bubble but not part of the explosion of the bubble either, so we kind of have steady growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith a hub in France already, Zimmerman feels ike Dynamic Germany is the \u201cmissing piece\u201d and is unlikely to open anywhere else in the near future.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s a difference in the American market or UK market but the two big commissioning markets in Europe are France and Germany,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
