Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally set to trade leather later this year, and a boxing icon has told ‘AJ’ exactly how he can topple his long-time rival\"Tyson<\/p>\n

Anthony Joshua’s<\/a> ‘psychological edge’ is the key to defeating Tyson Fury<\/a> in their heavyweight showdown later this year.<\/p>\n

That is the view of former four weight world<\/a> champion, Roy Jones Jr. After over a decade of trading barbs, Joshua and Fury are finally expected to go head-to-head in a mouthwatering all-British dust-up before Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two heavyweight icons signed to fight each other<\/a> just days after Fury won his comeback bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov back in April<\/a>. Joshua will return to the ring next month – taking on Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia<\/a>, while the ‘Gypsy King’ is also expected to have another tune-up fight before facing ‘AJ.’<\/p>\n

With the historic clash edging closer, many within the world of boxing<\/a> have started to offer their thoughts on how the bout will go. And boxing legend Jones Jr, recently gave his opinion on the matter. The 57-year-old believes ‘AJ’s’ mentality could be the key to getting the outcome he craves against Fury.<\/p>\n

In an interview with BettingLounge<\/a>, the American said: “You\u2019re looking to see how his mental dominance works. If he\u2019s mentally dominant, then you know he\u2019s ready to go into a big fight. If he\u2019s not mentally dominant, then he\u2019s not ready for Tyson Fury<\/a>. Mental dominance is the look you see on his face from round one until whatever round it takes to end it. I started dominating before the weigh-in.<\/p>\n

“My mental dominance set in before the weigh-in, and I tried to dominate all the way up until the last bell rang. Against Jake Paul<\/a>, his dominance showed up at that last weigh-in, at that last press conference. His dominance finally showed up. I said, ‘Now we\u2019ve got something.’ And it lasted throughout the night. So if it happens the same way this time, if his mental dominance shows up right away and it lasts to the end, then we know we\u2019ve got something.”<\/p>\n

Joshua and Fury are expected to engage in an epic rivalry – which should see them meet twice in the ring. The first outing is due to be broadcast live on Netflix<\/a>, with the rematch set for DAZN. And regardless of how the first meeting ends, Jones Jr has urged the Brits not to retire and put on a sequel for the ages.<\/p>\n

“It depends, because what if it\u2019s a very good fight, a very competitive fight, and it\u2019s close? We all want to see it again,” explained Jones Jr. “We\u2019re going to want to see two out of three. But if somebody blasts somebody, or somebody completely dominates somebody, we\u2019re just going to say, ‘Okay, well, he was better than him.’ We kind of thought that, but we didn\u2019t know. Now we know, and that\u2019s good. If it\u2019s a great fight, we all want to see it again. If it\u2019s a dominating performance by one guy or the other, we don\u2019t have to see it again.”<\/p>\n

Touching on Joshua’s return, Jones Jr insists it does not matter how ‘AJ’s’ looks in his clash with Prenga, as long as it does not jeopardise the former two-time heavyweight champion’s meeting with Fury. “Sometimes you\u2019re only as good as your opponent, so we can\u2019t judge him by this fight,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a different outlook and a different mindset when you know you\u2019re fighting a top guy than when you\u2019re fighting a guy with a padded record. He may look good and knock the guy right out, or the guy may come in and fight above his head and make Joshua have to work for it. But at the end of the day, Joshua should still beat him, and it doesn\u2019t matter how Joshua looks. We\u2019ve been waiting for the Joshua-Fury fight for so long that we don\u2019t care how Joshua looks.
