In feeling out her most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_jMqnCYjDT0&amp;list=RD_jMqnCYjDT0&amp;start_radio=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">guilt-ridden<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EC63dRT9R8U\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bloodthirsty<\/a> thoughts, the multi-instrumentalist conjures unwieldy shapes and arrives at a clear-eyed perspective on the other side of turmoil. \u201csoulless cycle,\u201d the lead single from the <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/news\/lrain-returns-with-new-album-fata-morgana\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">forthcoming fata morgana<\/a>, unravels a mental thread that comes perilously close to spiraling out completely. There\u2019s no way to rationally unpack the circular logic of thoughts like, \u201cI am so tired of being so tired\/I\u2019m so sorry for feeling so sorry,\u201d so the artist pummels into them instead. As Cheek calmly recites her lyrics like negative affirmations, bending the title\u2019s \u201ccycle\u201d until it sounds more like \u201cpsycho,\u201d the music rages and recedes. It\u2019s the heaviest track she\u2019s ever released, leaving her voice just audible amid a crush of pulverizing drums and redlining guitars: a wall of sound that\u2019s constantly assembling and collapsing.
