\n The club is one of Greater Manchester\u2019s most historic and has been acquired by The Good Golf Company, founded by Bury-born businessman Harrison Woods.\n<\/p>\n
\n The rescue of the club is part of the company’s wider national mission to revive struggling members\u2019 clubs across the UK.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Good Golf Company is led by Mr Woods and Brannan Coady, both of whom previously sold their tech business YourParkingSpace in a \u00a3250 million deal.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Woods, who grew up in Bury, said: “Walmersley is a club I\u2019ve known my whole life, and a course I have played many times as a young golfer.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Seeing a course with this much history and potential struggling is exactly the kind of challenge we set up The Good Golf Company to solve.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We’re not here to cut costs and walk away – we’re here to invest properly and give this club the future it deserves.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Renovation work is already underway on the course and the clubhouse.\n<\/p>\n
\n Under the company\u2019s ownership, the club will be relaunched as WGC Bury.\n<\/p>\n
\n The club is the second in the group\u2019s portfolio and part of its ambition to become the leading golf club in the town.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Coady, co-founder of The Good Golf Company and from Burnley, said: “This is the second acquisition of a much broader ambition to renovate, modernise and bring life back to hundreds of struggling clubs across the UK.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We have a clear model – identify and acquire great clubs with great history and character who do not have the available cash to make the necessary investments for the modern age, and who are otherwise unable to escape a downwards trajectory.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We are bringing together a world class team of central staff covering marketing, finance, technology, operations and supply chain that will be to the benefit of all clubs within our network.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The company invested more than \u00a32 million into its first club, Wanstead Golf Club, and has already invested over \u00a3350,000 in Walmersley\u2019s clubhouse renovation.\n<\/p>\n
\n The club is set to open to members on Saturday, June 20.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Woods said: “British golf clubs are facing a genuine crisis.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Dozens of members’ clubs close every year, not because golf isn’t popular, but because they’re being run with the same approach they used thirty years ago.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We bring the operational discipline and technology capability of a modern business, combined with a genuine love for the game and respect for what these clubs mean to their communities.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The Good Golf Company aims to protect and grow the club\u2019s existing membership base while upgrading facilities, improving the course, and enhancing the overall member experience.\n<\/p>\n
\n A new membership drive is planned for later this year, with competitive pricing and a significantly upgraded experience.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Woods said: “We want Walmersley to be the club this community is proud of again.\n<\/p>\n
\n “That means a course in outstanding condition, a clubhouse worth spending time in, and a membership that feels valued every time they come through the gate.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The company is currently in discussions with more than 20 clubs across the UK and is backed by private capital, with plans to accelerate acquisitions through 2026 and beyond.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Good Golf Company\u2019s approach blends investment in physical upgrades with the use of modern technology, including digital membership platforms and data-driven management systems.\n<\/p>\n
