A schoolgirl is due to appear in court charged with three counts of attempted murder after a knife attack at a school.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to reports of the stabbing at the Co-Op Academy, in Blackley, north Manchester on Tuesday 9 June.<\/p>\n
Two 14-year-olds – a girl and a boy – and a teacher, 27, were taken to hospital with injuries following the incident, but have since been discharged.<\/p>\n
A 14-year-old girl was previously arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and detained under the Mental Health Act – but following an assessment by health professionals she has been released into police custody.<\/p>\n

Counter Terrorism Police is now leading an investigation into a school stabbing which saw two teenage pupils and a teacher injured.<\/p>\n
In a statement Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: “As a result of further enquiries, Counter Terrorism Policing North West have now taken primacy for the investigation with the support of Greater Manchester Police.<\/p>\n
“Searches relating to the investigation remain ongoing and counter terrorism detectives are keeping an open mind to the motivation of the attack.”<\/p>\n
It added: “At this time, it has not been declared as a terrorist incident.”<\/p>\n
Police said the girl, who will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Friday, 12 June, has also been charged with two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises.<\/p>\n

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, Commander for Manchester, said: \u201cOur local detectives have been investigating this incident at pace ever since we arrested a schoolgirl suspect on Tuesday morning. She remains in custody in Manchester.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has included ensuring the suspect is checked by health professionals to make an assessment while under the Mental Health Act, and to explore all available evidence to understand why this incident took place.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince our last update, further information has come to light that we have made Counter Terrorism Policing North West aware of.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know this update will only continue to make our local community concerned by Tuesday\u2019s events.<\/p>\n
