More than \u00a36 billion of new investment and\u00a0around 8,000 new jobs\u00a0have been\u00a0announced\u00a0this week, as companies from around the world choose to build, hire and scale here\u00a0\u2013 reinforcing Britain\u2019s position as a global hub for\u00a0AI.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
From AMD\u2019s \u00a32 billion commitment for next generation\u00a0AI compute, to Nebius investing \u00a31.7 billion in new infrastructure, to homegrown companies like Oxford Quantum Circuits securing record funding – this is Britain\u2019s AI\u00a0leadership\u00a0turning into real jobs,\u00a0investment\u00a0and\u00a0opportunities across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
These\u00a0deals\u00a0span the full breadth of the AI economy\u00a0– from chips and cloud infrastructure to autonomous\u00a0vehicles\u00a0and open-source development\u00a0–\u00a0showing the\u00a0UK\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0just keeping pace in the global AI race\u00a0but helping to shape its direction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0momentum has been matched by\u00a0government action throughout the week\u00a0to strengthen the UK\u2019s tech sector\u00a0\u2013\u00a0backing the skills,\u00a0infrastructure and innovation needed to unlock growth.\u00a0That includes\u00a0new support<\/a>\u00a0for young people to seize the opportunities of AI, the first-ever\u00a0AI Adoption Summit<\/a>,\u00a0a\u00a0landmark \u00a31.1 billion\u00a0AI Hardware Plan<\/a>, plus\u00a0new backing for open-source AI builders, and a data centre design challenge<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 so Britain builds with taste.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Britain is seizing the opportunities of tech and AI to create jobs, improve lives and grow businesses.<\/p>\n Companies from across the globe are choosing to invest here and hire here, bringing\u00a0billions\u00a0of pounds and thousands of\u00a0new\u00a0jobs\u00a0with them.<\/p>\n And this Government is backing them with our \u00a31.1billion hardware plan and our investment in skills and training.<\/p>\n We are rebuilding Britain for the modern age and creating a future that works for all.<\/p>\n A range of major investments\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0announced,\u00a0totalling\u00a0over \u00a36 billion of investment and\u00a0around 8,000 new jobs \u2013 from global leaders and frontier companies choosing to grow here.\u00a0This\u00a0includes:<\/p>\n AMD\u00a0commits up to \u00a32 billion of investment over five years to Accelerate AI Innovation and Research in the United Kingdom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Nebius, the AI cloud company, announced it is investing approximately \u00a31.7 billion to build out capacity in the UK with three new deployments of advanced NVIDIA compute, as the company continues to expand its commercial and AI R&D hub in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n Amazon\u00a0opened a new fulfilment centre in Northampton and announced plans for a second major site in Kettering, committing more than \u00a31 billion and up to 4,000 jobs in a single county as part of its planned \u00a340 billion UK investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n British unicorn\u00a0Ark\u00a0has announced an investment of \u00a3807m in the expansion of its\u00a0Longcross\u00a0Park campus. The expansion supports the deployment of leading AI cloud provider\u00a0Nebius, which is also increasing its footprint in the UK as well as an\u00a0additional\u00a0data centre facility with 36MW of future capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n Eros Innovation\u00a0is investing \u00a3265m and establishing a sovereign British Cultural AI capability, supporting 3,000+ jobs across 15 productions over five-years (2 films shooting in the UK in 2026), licensing its $1.7bn cultural dataset to its UK operation and launching an AI Studio to develop Large Cultural Models trained on British creative heritage and governed by British law.\u00a0<\/p>\n Quantum computing scale-up\u00a0Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC)\u00a0securing a \u00a3260\u00a0million\u00a0investment \u2013 the largest quantum funding round in the UK, backed by\u00a0the\u00a0British Business Bank.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Silicon Valley investors\u00a0Playground Global\u00a0are launching a new fund backed by up to \u00a3150\u00a0million\u00a0from the British Business Bank – the largest fund investment the bank has ever made – to invest in UK-based hardware companies and help them scale.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n Arlequin AI\u00a0investing up to\u00a0\u00a345 million\u00a0in the UK over the next 5 years with capital deployed across local hiring, UK R&D, and sovereign deployment capability for government and critical national infrastructure clients.\u00a0<\/p>\n Midlands\u00a0Mindforge\u00a0has now entered its active investing stage, thanks to the support of the Mayors of the East and West Midlands, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Rigby Group and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) via the Invest in UK University R&D Midlands Campaign. This will help to unlock\u00a0an\u00a0initial\u00a0\u00a330m of capital into the region making its first round of investments into spinout companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n Cosine\u00a0announced the formation of a coalition of major UK institutions including, BAE Systems, BT, Lloyds Banking Group, NatWest,\u00a0PwC\u00a0and Leonardo UK, to co-design Lumen Sovereign, Britain\u2019s first fully sovereign frontier AI model. Backed by the Government\u2019s Sovereign AI Fund, Lumen Sovereign will be trained entirely on UK soil using Isambard-AI.\u00a0<\/p>\n AI coding startup\u00a0Cursor\u00a0announced plans to open its European headquarters in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fynd,\u00a0the AI-native unified commerce platform serving brands and retailers across India, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia, has opened its first UK office in London. This investment is projected to create 70 jobs across London,\u00a0Manchester\u00a0and the wider UK by 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n General Intuition\u00a0\u2014 the frontier research lab dedicated to foundation models for spatial and temporal reasoning \u2014 has opened a UK office in London King\u2019s Cross.
