{"id":635033,"date":"2026-06-12T15:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T15:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/635033\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T15:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T15:06:08","slug":"blackhall-care-home-rated-as-requires-improvement-by-cqc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/635033\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackhall care home rated as &#8216;requires improvement&#8217; by CQC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said Yohden Hall Care Complex in Blackhall was in breach of legal requirements relating to governance after an assessment found managers had failed to address a longstanding problem with the condition and safety of the premises.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors said improvements had been made since their last visit, particularly around infection prevention and control and medicines management, but warned that oversight at the home remained inadequate.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In its report, the CQC said: &#8220;Governance processes were still not consistently identifying or addressing issues at the service.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The watchdog added: &#8220;An issue with the safety and condition of the premises that had been first identified in 2022 had not been addressed by the time of this visit.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  As a result, the provider, Maria Mallaband Care Group Limited, who run the home, was found to be in breach of regulations relating to governance processes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The assessment of the home on Hesleden Road was carried out between March 18 and April 28 this year because of the length of time since the regulator&#8217;s previous visit.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Yohden Hall Care Complex in Blackhall was in breach of legal requirements relating to governance after an assessment found managers had failed to address a longstanding problem with the condition and safety of the premises. (Image: GOOGLE)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite the breach, inspectors found residents were safe and well cared for by staff.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  People told inspectors they felt &#8220;happy and safe&#8221; living at the home and praised the care they received.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One resident said: &#8220;Staff are kind&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A relative told inspectors: &#8220;[Named person] gets all the support she needs.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The CQC said people were safeguarded from abuse, risks were assessed and managed, and staff received regular training, supervision and appraisals.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors also found care plans included information about people&#8217;s capacity and consent, helping to protect their rights, while staff worked effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure residents received the support they needed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The report said staff knew residents well and treated them with dignity and respect.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors observed people enjoying activities and spending time together during the visit, adding that residents &#8220;were happy at the service and got on well with the staff supporting them&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The home, which supports older people, people with physical disabilities and people living with dementia, retained an overall rating of Requires Improvement.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Northern Echo contacted the provider of the home Maria Mallaband Care Group Limited for comment but they were unable to provide a response before publication.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said Yohden Hall Care Complex in Blackhall was in breach of legal requirements&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":635034,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43],"tags":[102,2960,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-635033","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/635033","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=635033"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/635033\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/635034"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=635033"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=635033"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=635033"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
