{"id":635150,"date":"2026-06-12T16:31:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T16:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/635150\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T16:31:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T16:31:17","slug":"met-police-arrest-72-protesters-after-palestine-action-demo-outside-woolwich-crown-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/635150\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Police arrest 72 protesters after Palestine Action demo outside Woolwich Crown Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police have arrested 72 protesters after a Palestine Action demonstration outside of court ahead of the sentencing of four activists convicted of criminal damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Charlotte Head, 30, Samuel Corner, 23, Leona Kamio, 30, and Fatema Rajwani, 21, are due to be sentenced later for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cm2p99rxr5po\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">their involvement in a raid at a UK site of an Israel-based defence firm<\/a> near Bristol in August 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Justice Johnson told Woolwich Crown Court the \u00a31.2m worth of damage at Elbit Systems was &#8220;not trivial or minor&#8221; and the group will be sentenced on the basis it had a &#8220;terrorist connection&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Corner was also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c70dv0ln4g4o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fractured Sgt Kate Evans&#8217; spine<\/a> with a sledgehammer in the raid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Justice Johnson ruled that the actions of the offenders amounted to serious damage to influence the government and to intimidate a section of the public in order to advance their cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I am bound to find that the offence in each case had a terrorist connection and to apply that as an aggravating factor increasing the seriousness of the offence,&#8221; he told the court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police have arrested 72 protesters after a Palestine Action demonstration outside of court ahead of the sentencing of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":635151,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[59,57,58,50,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-635150","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-kingdom","tag-gb","tag-great-britain","tag-greatbritain","tag-news","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/635150","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=635150"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/635150\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/635151"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=635150"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=635150"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=635150"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
