Miles Russell has revealed Charlie Woods will not be caddying for him at next week’s U.S. Open<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old amateur star survived final qualifying for the third men’s major of the year, known as golf’s longest day, on 8 June.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Russell did so with his good pal Charlie<\/a>, also 17, on the bag.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The teenager finished on a 36-hole total of six-under par after firing rounds of 71 and 67 at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He then held his nerve in a sudden-death playoff, holing a crucial birdie putt, to secure a golden ticket.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It led to speculation that the son of golf legend would be looping for his pal at Shinnecock Hills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Russell has revealed to Golfweek<\/a> that his swing coach, Ramon Bescansa, will be assuming looping duties in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Explaining why, Russell said: “Ramon’s kind of been on my bag in all my big events, whether it was the Rocket Classic or my first Korn Ferry [start].<\/p>\n

“I think it\u2019s just a comfortability thing.”<\/p>\n

He added: “He’s caddied there before\u2026 He caddied for Russell Knox in 2018 so he’s got a little history there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“He kind of knows what it could play like and what it could be like, so just having that little bit of insight and knowledge definitely helps.”<\/p>\n

Russell heads into the U.S. Open as one of the world’s top-ranked juniors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of two 17-year-olds in the 156-man field, he is a two-time AJGA player of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Russell has already tested himself against the professionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He made his first appearance on the Korn Ferry Tour aged 15 and finished 20th at the LECOM Suncoast Classic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Charlie attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open as well but came up short in his pre-qualifier.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His father, now 50, won the U.S. Open three times in his illustrious career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tiger<\/a> is reportedly heading back to the United States soon after completing a 90-day rehab program in Switzerland<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
