Oscar De La Hoya believes Gervonta Davis<\/a>\u2019 professional record should have a loss on it ahead of his potential comeback fight.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old is said to be in negotiations for a WBA lightweight title clash with Floyd Schofield Jr<\/a>, offering \u2018Tank\u2019 the opportunity to reclaim his old belt.<\/p>\n

Davis retained the world title following a controversial draw with Lamont Roach<\/a> in March 2025, but has since become the sanctioning body\u2019s \u2018champion in recess\u2019 at 135lbs.<\/p>\n

This is partly because of his inactivity but also due to the American\u2019s issues outside the ring, where he has been faced with allegations of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

It now seems that Davis could soon return to action, however, with the potential Schofield fight being lined up for a date in either September or October.<\/p>\n

These negotiations involve Schofield\u2019s promoter, Golden Boy boss De La Hoya, who insists that \u2018Tank\u2019 should have suffered his first professional loss against Roach.<\/p>\n

Their encounter ended in a draw after referee Steve Willis gave a no-knockdown call in round nine, when Davis clearly touched the canvas following a shot from Roach.<\/p>\n

As a result, De La Hoya has told Fight Hub TV<\/a> that Roach should be coming off back-to-back victories over \u2018Tank\u2019 and Isaac \u2018Pitbull\u2019 Cruz, with whom he boxed to a less controversial draw in December.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoach is a great fighter in his own right. He\u2019s coming off some really good wins; I say wins because I think he really did win against \u2018Tank\u2019 Davis, and I thought he did an excellent job against \u2018Pitbull\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
