Seven people from across the Channel Islands<\/a> had their service recognised in King Charles’ Birthday Honours list.<\/p>\n

Among them were four people from Guernsey <\/a>and three from Jersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His Excellency, Lieutenant General Sir Richard Cripwell KBE CB, commented: “I continue to be hugely impressed by the effort made by islanders to volunteer their time and energy to support charitable causes, sport and their community.<\/p>\n

“The commitment of those honoured today is truly humbling, and they are thoroughly deserving of national recognition. I congratulate them all.”<\/p>\n

Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)<\/p>\n

Jason Wyse<\/p>\n

Jason Wyse is the CEO of Silkworth, which delivers addiction treatment to individuals and their families in Jersey.<\/p>\n

Founded in the 1990s, the charity aims to be “a force of healing and hope”, with alcohol consumption levels being twice as high as those in the UK, and one of the highest in Europe.<\/p>\n

Jason has been leading the charity since 2008, having previously held several senior roles in the finance industry.<\/p>\n

The charity describes him as “a key figure and expert voice in his field, and provides many presentations around Jersey and the UK, to professionals and students about addiction and treatment options”.<\/p>\n

The charity supports schools and children in Rwanda<\/a>; Mr Haden has been travelling to the area for the last 16 years.<\/p>\n

Hands Around the World now works with nine schools to build new classrooms and facilities, as well as providing sanitary products to girls.<\/p>\n

Mike stressed that the award was about the team around him, adding his motivation is “the pride of what local people are doing for themselves”. <\/p>\n

“It’s fantastic for the charity to show people what we’ve been doing there,” he told ITV News.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just the money that us and Jersey Overseas Aid have put in, it’s their own efforts.”<\/p>\n

Jurat Ian Brown<\/p>\n

Jurat Ian Brown is a keen cyclist, representing Guernsey at seven Island Games and two Commonwealth Games. He was also the first cyclist to represent Great Britain in the Tour of Normandy.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has run a cycling shop in Guernsey and raised large sums of money for charity, which he finds “satisfying and rewarding”.<\/p>\n

His project, Wheels for You, aims to improve access to cycling for people who cannot ride traditional, two-wheel bikes.<\/p>\n

Another one of his projects is the Rock to Rocque charity cycle ride, which has raised more than \u00a3700,000 in the last 34 years.<\/p>\n

He found out about his award two weeks ago and told ITV News that he is still “in a state of shock”.<\/p>\n

British Empire Medals (BEM)<\/p>\n

Johanna Norman<\/p>\n

Jo Norman has been awarded a British Empire Medal after nearly five decades of voluntary services to swimming and water safety in Guernsey.<\/p>\n

She began teaching swimming in the 1970s and has coached athletes competing at the Island, Commonwealth, and Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Later, she established the Open Castle Charity Swim and raised tens of thousands of pounds for local causes.<\/p>\n

Nominated for the Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Awards in 2024, Jo was described as “essential” to the Guernsey Swimming Club, winning the Sports Volunteer of the Year.<\/p>\n

Ben Gregg<\/p>\n

Ben Gregg has been recognised for his services to St Martin’s Parish in Guernsey.<\/p>\n

He has been a member of the Parish Douzaine for 26 years and devoted thousands of hours to local campaigning for improved infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Ben also served as the Dean of the Douzaine until retiring in 2025.<\/p>\n

In a parish newsletter, Senior Constable Dave Beausire described Ben as “a great servant to the parish with his leadership, building knowledge and hands-on approach quite literally, with his involvement in the refurbishment”. <\/p>\n

Alongside his parish commitments, he has been a regular volunteer minibus driver for Age Concern and a dedicated supporter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, to which he has contributed generously over many years.<\/p>\n

Dawn Tinley <\/p>\n

Dawn Tinley has been recognised for services to people with learning disabilities in Jersey. She is a committee member at Mencap Jersey and has worked there for nearly four decades.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, she has sought to reduce the stigma that disabled people feel in their everyday lives. That has involved a wide variety of programs, including placing them in supported private accommodation.<\/p>\n

Mrs Tinley found out about her award when a phone call from the governor interrupted her pilates class. She told ITV News that at first, she thought it was a “wind-up”.<\/p>\n

When she eventually discovered that it was real, she says she was “gobsmacked”.<\/p>\n

Royal Victorian Order (Silver)<\/p>\n

Colin is the Deputy Head Gardener at Government House.<\/p>\n

He has been made a member of the Royal Victorian Order in recognition of his 20 years of service to Government House.<\/p>\n
