{"id":637223,"date":"2026-06-13T21:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T21:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/637223\/"},"modified":"2026-06-13T21:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T21:11:10","slug":"muhammad-ali-ranked-one-boxer-as-the-true-greatest-of-all-time-i-still-say-he-was-the-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/637223\/","title":{"rendered":"Muhammad Ali ranked one boxer as the true greatest of all time: &#8220;I still say he was the best&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many boxing fans view <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/muhammad-ali\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Muhammad Ali<\/a> as the greatest of all time, but the man himself once revealed his own pick.<\/p>\n<p>Ali\u2019s own illustrious accolades include becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion, whilst talking part in some of the biggest fights in history, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/30\/sport\/rumble-in-the-jungle-50-years-on-spt-intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">including the \u2018Rumble In The Jungle\u2019 against George Foreman<\/a> and the \u2018Thrilla In Manila\u2019 against Joe Frazier.<\/p>\n<p>His final record stood at 56 wins from 61 fights, having also defeated the likes of Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Earnie Shavers and Ken Norton, along with becoming a cultural icon outside of the ring.<\/p>\n<p>Those achievements are the reason why a lot of fans deem Ali to be the best ever, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@ganash_himrung\/video\/7595628918644739350?_r=1&amp;_t=ZN-94XcQejg6CM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a resurfaced interview<\/a>, the heavyweight legend once revealed his choice for that honour to be Sugar Ray Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat man was beautiful. Timing, speed, reflexes, rhythm, his body, everything was beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d say I\u2019m the greatest heavyweight of all time, but pound-for-pound, I still say Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robinson reigned as world welterweight title for five years from 1946 to 1951, going on an incredible 91-fight unbeaten streak in the process.<\/p>\n<p>His record at one stage read 129 wins from 132 fights, with 85 of those victories coming by knockout.
