{"id":637804,"date":"2026-06-14T06:06:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T06:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/637804\/"},"modified":"2026-06-14T06:06:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T06:06:14","slug":"uk-hits-22c-how-long-will-the-warm-spell-last","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/637804\/","title":{"rendered":"UK hits 22\u00b0C &#8211; how long will the warm spell last?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Temperatures are set to reach up to 27\u00b0C next week as warmer weather returns to the UK, the Met Office has forecast.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the highest recorded temperature was 22.4\u00b0C in Kent, with up to 26\u00b0C expected in south-west England on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>After a \u201cbrief blip\u201d on Tuesday, the sunnier weather is expected to last throughout next week and \u201cpossibly drag out into the start of the following week, but mostly across the south-west,\u201d a Met Office spokesperson told The i Paper.<\/p>\n<p>The warmest weather will be felt in the south-east of England with \u201csettled and warm\u201d temperatures of up to 26 to 27\u00b0C, while the north-west is expected to experience rain with lower temperatures by next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>What to expect this summer<\/p>\n<p>The UK should not expect the \u201cwall to wall sunshine\u201d it experienced last month, the spokesperson added, with temperatures set to be \u201cmore comfortable\u201d this week.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the <a class=\"post_in-line_link\" href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/bank-holiday-heatwave-how-long-4436608?ico=in-line_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UK experienced its hottest bank holiday on record<\/a> and an all-time May temperature record of 35.1\u00b0C was set in London.<\/p>\n<p>Yellow and amber heat health alerts were also used for the first time this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office released its three-month summer outlook on 1 June, predicting higher chances of hotter weather for the rest of this month.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"507\" width=\"760\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SEI_298917711.jpg\" alt=\"BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND - MAY 25: Visitors enjoy the hot weather at Bournemouth beach, on May 25, 2026 in Bournemouth, England. (Photo by Finnbarr Webster\/Getty Images)\" class=\"wp-image-4476917\"  \/>This May broke records for the hottest UK bank holiday on record (Photo: Finnbarr Webster\/Getty)<\/p>\n<p>It also said there will be \u201can increased chance of heatwaves and heat-related impacts\u201d for the rest of the summer, running through to August.<\/p>\n<p>There is some uncertainty about summer rainfalls, with MeteoGroup predicting a drier period while the Met Office said \u201cthe chance of a wet season is slightly higher than normal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This spring was extremely dry in some locations across southern and eastern England, which received only a quarter to a third of their expected rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>Some areas in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Dorset experienced one of their driest springs on record, while over 18,000 homes under South East Water had their supply cut off during the May heat wave due to high demand.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2018Godzilla\u2019 El Ni\u00f1o<\/p>\n<p>This return to warmth arrives as <a class=\"post_in-line_link\" href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/el-nino-arrived-spike-price-big-shop-essentials-4472035?ico=in-line_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">El Ni\u00f1o conditions have now developed<\/a> in the tropical Pacific, the Met Office declared on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have warned that the current El Ni\u00f1o phase, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/could-super-el-nino-impact-uk-summer-4380498?ico=in-line_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to last for nine to 12 months<\/a>, could be particularly strong, with some declaring it a \u201cGodzilla\u201d El Ni\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>The UN has put out a global warning for the incoming weather pattern, which will increase worldwide temperatures and extreme weather.
