A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was hit by a vehicle and left with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Two people were injured on Keelmans Terrace in Blyth, Northumberland, close to the junction with Beaumont Street, at about 01:25 BST on Friday, Northumbria Police said.<\/p>\n
There had been reports a vehicle had been driven towards a group of women who were standing on the path, the force said.<\/p>\n
Det Ch Insp Graeme Barr said it had “clearly been a very serious incident”.<\/p>\n
The force said the vehicle hit two women in their 30s and then left.<\/p>\n
One of the women was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but the other was not seriously hurt, it said.<\/p>\n
A boy aged 17 has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on police bail while inquiries continue.<\/p>\n
Barr said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition.”<\/p>\n
He said officers believed those involved were known to each other and appealed for witnesses and anyone with doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.<\/p>\n
The force is also asking for information about a small, dark-coloured sports utility vehicle believed to have been in the area between 01:00 and 01:30 on Friday.<\/p>\n
“It is understood that the victims of the collision on Keelmans Terrace were involved in an earlier altercation on or near Stephen Street between 01:15 and 01:20 with the occupants of the same dark-coloured vehicle, although no-one was reported to have been injured,” Barr said.<\/p>\n
