\n Last week, Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich announced the arrival of a pancake tortoise egg.\n<\/p>\n
\n The park announced that the hatchling hatched on Facebook, which reads: “We need your help.\n<\/p>\n
\n “This critically endangered female Pancake Tortoise<\/a> hatchling has just hatched.\n<\/p>\n \n “There’s just one problem… she doesn’t have a name yet…\n<\/p>\n \n “So, what should we call her?\n<\/p>\n \n ” Drop your best name suggestions in the comments.”\n<\/p>\n \n In a video posted alongside the announcement, Kyle Thomas said: “I posted a video of us incubating a critically endangered pancake tortoise egg.\n<\/p>\n \n “And we have just welcomed to the world an adorable baby pancake tortoise.\n<\/p>\n \n “So to have this pancake tortoise hatch here at the wildlife park is a massive symbol of hope for conservation.\n<\/p>\n \n “The number of these guys has dropped by 80% in the past 30 years and scientists predict that it is only going to keep happening.\n<\/p>\n \n “So we want these guys to reproduce.\n<\/p>\n \n “So we want to keep hold of them because that means if the opportunity does arise we can rewild them.\n<\/p>\n \n “Unfortunately, out in Africa, where they’re native to, a lot is threatening them.\n<\/p>\n \n “Illegal mining is a huge issue for pancake tortoises.\n<\/p>\n \n “People come up and blow huge areas of land that these tortoises will live in because they burrow themselves in between rocks.\n<\/p>\n \n “So to have her here and knowing that she might produce her own offspring one day is very, very exciting.”\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \n This comes after the wildlife park was recently named Best Large Attraction in England at the VisitEngland<\/a> Awards.\n<\/p>\n \n The park is no stranger to recognition, having also been crowned Visitor Attraction of the Year<\/a> at the 2026 Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards.\n<\/p>\n
