Stewart Copeland has explained why he was left \u201cheartbroken\u201d by his The Police<\/a> bandmates following their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.<\/p>\n

The Police had not performed together for decades before reuniting at the ceremony, which saw them perform \u2018Roxanne\u2019, \u2018Message in a Bottle\u2019, and \u2018Every Breath You Take\u2019.<\/p>\n

However, much to Copeland\u2019s disappointment, it wasn\u2019t the celebratory affair that he had envisaged after going so many years without being in the same room as Sting and Andy Summers.<\/p>\n

In the new documentary, Copeland, The Independent<\/a> reports the drummer said in the film, \u201cWe rehearsed before, then we hadn\u2019t seen each other in decades \u2013 the rehearsals were a little weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

Copeland continued, \u201cWe played our three songs, [then] after we played the three songs \u2013 it was a very low stage \u2013 I look over and Andy\u2019s walked off that way into the night, Sting\u2019s walked off that way\u2026 I walk over the front of the stage, go meet up with my family\u2026 I never saw The Police again that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said that he was left with \u201ca feeling of sadness\u201d, admitting, \u201cI was heartbroken.\u201d The drummer is also quoted as saying in the film, \u201cDoes that mean nothing? Come on, guys. And I never saw them again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, while speaking to The Independent, Copeland said of the induction ceremony, \u201cIt was strange that we came together and went apart,\u201d as well as revealing he spent more time with The Clash than his own band.<\/p>\n

His new documentary, Copeland, will premiere in London at the Raindance Film Festival on June 19th.<\/p>\n

In January, amid an ongoing legal battle between members of The Police, it emerged that Sting<\/a> has paid out \u00a3595,000 to Stewart Copeland and Andrew Summers since facing legal action over unpaid royalties.<\/p>\n

This payout comes amid\u00a0years of legal rows<\/a>\u00a0between the trio, with Summers and Copeland accusing Sting, real name Gordon Sumner, of losing royalties from the band which were owed to them.<\/p>\n

Copeland and Summers contend that they are owed more than \u00a31.49 million in \u201carranger\u2019s fees\u201d by the bassist and his company, Magnetic Publishing. The case remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
