Floyd Mayweather is facing two felony charges over allegations he used a bad check to buy a $200,000 watch in 2024.<\/p>\n

The charges are for theft and intent to defraud. The theft charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years in jail if someone is found guilty, although sentences of that length for the offense are rare.<\/p>\n

According to Nevada court records obtained by ESPN<\/a>, Mayweather wrote a $200,000 check for a watch he bought at a high-end Las Vegas store in December 2024. However, according to the records, Mayweather \u201chad insufficient money, property, or credit\u201d in his bank account to pay the amount in full. The theft charge alleges the former boxing world champion bought the watch \u201cknowing that the check would not be paid when presented\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mayweather\u2019s attorney has yet to comment on the charges. Marc Cook, an attorney for Gold & Beyond, the store where Mayweather used the check, said his client had filed a complaint in February with Nevada authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason for the delay is that my guy trusted Mayweather and was trying to give him every opportunity to make good on that,\u201d Cook said. \u201cAnd it got to the point where he wasn\u2019t getting responses and wasn\u2019t getting money for a watch that Mayweather had for well over a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayweather made hundreds of millions of dollars during his professional boxing career. He retired undefeated with a 50-0 record.
