Late-night hosts talked about Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s rambling Truth Social posts and Taylor Swift\u2019s new album announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/a> opened Tuesday\u2019s Late Night with a recap of Donald Trump\u2019s effort to take over the metro police in Washington DC. During Monday\u2019s announcement that the federal government would deploy national guard troops in the city, Trump said that he wanted residents to feel safe going to the store to buy a newspaper. \u201cYou think I need to go to the store to buy a newspaper? Is that right after my milk gets delivered?\u201d Meyers laughed.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

During the same press conference, Trump also discussed his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin, and said, \u201cI think it will be good, but it might be bad.\u201d \u201cOnly Trump talks about a peace conference like it\u2019s a new Marvel movie,\u201d said Meyers, adding: \u201cLook, they got Chris Evans back and worst-case scenario, the place has AC.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a post last week on Truth Social, Trump promoted a book about the assassination attempt on his life last summer, but misspelled the author\u2019s name. \u201cDon\u2019t take it personally, he also misspelled his wife\u2019s name,\u201d said Meyers, pointing out that Trump called Melania \u201cMelanie\u201d on Truth Social, as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, we should just be glad that he can manage his own \u2013 oh right, can\u2019t do that either.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another post to Truth Social, Trump said the Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett had a \u201clow (very!!!) IQ\u201d and that she should take a cognitive test \u2018much like the one I recently took while getting my \u2018physical\u2019 at our GREAT Washington DC Military Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you mean Walter Reed?\u201d said Meyers, referring to the famous military hospital where Trump underwent this test. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing quite like bragging about your cognitive ability as you forget the name of the famous place where you took your dementia test.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump added that he \u201cACED\u201d the cognitive test, \u201csomething that is rarely seen\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOK, again, it is a test to make sure that you don\u2019t have brain damage,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cIt\u2019s the written version of a boxing referee holding up three fingers. He doesn\u2019t do that if you seem fine!\u201d<\/p>\n

And during a meeting last week with business leaders, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo compared his relationship with Donald trump to a \u201cdysfunctional marriage\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you know, what\u2019s one more?\u201d said Meyers next to a photo of Trump and Melania.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Fallon<\/p>\n

On the Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon<\/a> reacted excitedly to the news of Taylor Swift\u2019s new album. The singer confirmed her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, at 12:12am ET on 12 August in a teaser trailer for the New Heights podcast hosted by her boyfriend Tracis Kelce and his brother Jason. \u201cAmericans are like, wait \u2026 there\u2019s good news out there?\u201d Fallon joked. \u201cI don\u2019t know what to do with myself!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSeriously, we all need Taylor Swift right now,\u201d he continued, \u201cbecause without her music and her merchandise, we end up doing weird stuff like starting our labubu collection.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement made Swift\u2019s website crash, \u201cand then out of habit, so did Ticketmaster\u2019s\u201d, Fallon quipped.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of now we don\u2019t know the exact release date, but we do know that no one else is releasing music that day,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In political news, the White House confirmed that Trump\u2019s upcoming meeting with Putin would take place in the city of Anchorage, Alaska. \u201cTemperatures should be overcast and in the 50s,\u201d said Fallon. \u201cOr as Putin put it: beach weather, baby!\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House also said the meeting with Putin would be a \u201clistening exercise\u201d for Trump. \u201cAnd we all know listening and exercise are Trump\u2019s two favorite things,\u201d said a skeptical Fallon. \u201cThis should go well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, for his part, said he would know \u201cprobably in the first two minutes\u201d whether a deal is possible with Putin for peace in Ukraine, which was not invited to the summit. \u201cIt\u2019s reassuring when a president talks about ending a war like a Tinder date,\u201d Fallon joked.
