While promoting this weekend\u2019s premiere of House of the Dragon Season 3, Matt Smith chatted a bit with the TODAY Show<\/a> about next year\u2019s Star Wars: Starfighter. The actor played coy about his role in the film while praising the project overall. He also provided a small update on Starfighter\u2018s post-production status.<\/p>\n

According to prior reports<\/a>, Smith will\u00a0play a villain in\u00a0Starfighter alongside Mia Goth, who will hunt down Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray\u2019s characters. However, Smith doesn\u2019t confirm his villainous status, simply saying \u201cmaybe. Am I?\u201d when asked. As the saying goes, no villain is a villain in their eyes. He goes on to hype up the film, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the film is going to be absolutely blinding. I think it\u2019s going to be brilliant, truly. I was so, so excited and thrilled to be on it. Mia Goth, fantastic. Ryan [Gosling] is just a great leader. Shawn [Levy] is a real top, top director. It was brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Principal photography on Starfighter was completed late last year<\/a>. While post-production is still nowhere near finished, Smith says he may get a chance to see a rough cut of the film soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI might even go and watch it today. Can you believe that? There\u2019s like a rough cut, you know, kind of rough, rough.\u201d<\/p>\n

With ongoing visual effects work and potential reshoots on the calendar, Starfighter isn\u2019t likely to come fully together until next year, as is the case with almost every big-budget production. There hasn\u2019t been an actor or actress on the Starfighter cast who hasn\u2019t waxed poetic about their experience on the film. Amy Adams was recently on The Tonight Show<\/a> with Jimmy Fallon, calling it \u201ca dream come true.\u201d\u00a0Adams apparently collected Star Wars toys growing up, including a Princess Leia doll she still has.<\/p>\n

Star Wars: Starfighter is directed by Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Daniel Ings, Jamael Westman, and Simon Bird. The film will be released on May 28, 2027.<\/p>\n
