{"id":64747,"date":"2025-08-13T19:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T19:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/64747\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T19:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T19:51:09","slug":"ex-quins-lock-george-hammond-lands-japan-deal-with-all-black-and-bok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/64747\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Quins lock George Hammond lands Japan deal with All Black and Bok"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/harlequins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harlequins<\/a> lock <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/george-hammond\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Hammond<\/a> has signed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a> Rugby League One outfit Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath ahead of the new season, which begins in December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/news\/fissler-confidential-fin-smith-jac-morgan-and-suaalii-linked-with-mega-moves\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as reported by RugbyPass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/england\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> U20 forward, 25, spent seven years at the Stoop, having come through the Quins academy, making over 50 appearances, but was part of a lengthy exit list at the end of last season.<\/p>\n<p>He will join a Sungoliath side that had a mixed 2024\/25 campaign, winning eight of their 18 fixtures. Let\u2019s make this season unforgettable!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Hammond\u2019s departure was announced in May, Quins director of rugby Billy Millard said: \u201cThere is a strong culture here at Harlequins, which makes the playing and performance staff very tight, so it\u2019s always an emotional time of the season as we confirm the group of players leaving the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank all the players for their commitment to the club. They are a great group of men, and we wish them luck in the next chapter of their lives, both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season, I\u2019m joining the team of leavers to take up a new challenge.
