They really made us pay but in the first half, I don’t think the scoreline really reflected the game.

They won three moments – they had a trick, switch kick play and won that moment with the bounce of a ball. We missed a tackle on Ash Handley, who’s a great player, and Croft finished very nicely then.

We had players in great positions to cover but their brilliance got us, then Newman outjumps Thewlis on a midfield kick.

Breaking us down was a couple of kicks and a missed tackle, so I was okay at half time.

We do look clunky and I can accept that, but in the second half they were by far the better side. When they get in a mood like that, they’re very hard to handle.

Q: You’ve mentioned a few times about being clunky in recent weeks – is that the reality of having what you do in the halves right now? Two clearly talented young players who are still very much learning?

SB: They will learn a lot from tonight but they had some good moments at times.

Leon kicked a good 40-20 and Ewan looked really free when he runs the ball, but we got taught a bit of a lesson by a very experienced spine.

There’s Josh at full-back as well, who’s been playing the last two or three years on the wing. It’s a tough position to learn.

I’m willing to be patient with them and I won’t be beating them up over it. We just need to do a bit of reflection and try to improve.

Q: The scoreline will obviously alarm and concern people but did you see anything out there from your players that is a cause for real concern?

SB: I’m quite happy it didn’t get past 50 because at a point in the second half, everything was sticking and they were winning all of the little bounces off the ball, every offload was going to hand.

There was a point where I thought it could be very dangerous so in that respect, I’m quite happy that we strangled the game back a bit.

In saying that, obviously I’m not happy to concede 34 points. We had a tough night and they made us pay. We have to accept that.

Q: You always say you try to stay level as a group whether you win or lose, but will that be harder this week given the nature of what happened?

SB: No because if we lost 10-8, we’re still in the same place.

It was probably one too far for us as a group – we looked like a young team against a very experienced team.

I’m relaxed about it and the good thing is we go again in seven days.

Q: If anything, has this shown you the standard of where you need to get to?

SB: They outplayed us and we were clearly second-best. It’s not often I’ve said that this year.

We could all see they were better than us tonight.

In saying that, however, he insists he remains “relaxed” about the position his side are in despite the…

[35
5903,101,56,54,55
post-648634","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-rugby","tag-rugby","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
