{"id":648733,"date":"2026-06-20T10:07:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/648733\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T10:07:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:07:09","slug":"carlisle-golf-club-raise-over-50000-for-prostate-cancer-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/648733\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlisle Golf Club raise over \u00a350,000 for Prostate Cancer UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Big Golf Race, which is described as the UK&#8217;s biggest golf fundraising challenge was hosted at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsandstar.co.uk\/local-news\/carlisle-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Carlisle<\/a> Golf Club on Sunday, June 14, and was the first of such events to take place in the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Inside the club house with some of the golfers (Image: Carlisle Golf Club)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Club members raised over \u00a350,000 to help fund research to find better tests to save men\u2019s lives by taking on either the Marathon, which consisted of four rounds (72 holes) and 26 miles of walking in a day, Half Marathon (36 holes in a day and 13 miles of walking) or Ultra Marathon, which consisted of 100 holes of golf in a day and 35 miles of walking.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There were plenty of memorable moments out on the course.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Carlisle Golf Club are \u00a340,000 ahead of the second placed fundraiser nationally (Image: Carlisle Golf Club)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ian Manley made a hole-in-one on his 53rd hole of the day, Oscar Gilligan completed 100 holes at just 12 years old, Brian Allen completed 100 holes in just over 11 hours and Anne Nichol completed 36 holes at the age of 84.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Incredible efforts and a great example of what the day was all about.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The event, spearheaded by Liam Burns said: &#8220;I\u2019m taking on the Big Golf Race because I want to raise awareness of prostate cancer and encourage all men of a certain age to get checked.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>From the first tee shots before sunrise right through until late into the evening, the atmosphere around the club was brilliant.
