{"id":649155,"date":"2026-06-20T15:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T15:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/649155\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T15:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T15:36:09","slug":"drone-footage-captures-huge-shark-metres-from-nsw-shore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/649155\/","title":{"rendered":"Drone footage captures huge shark metres from NSW shore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breathtaking drone footage has captured a great white shark gliding effortlessly along the water just meters away from the shoreline of a New South Wales beach.<\/p>\n<p>Videographer Trent Micallef, who posted the recording to Instagram, said the shark was potentially the largest great white he has seen from his drone so far.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a big claim for the nature and wildlife enthusiast who has filmed multiple encounters of the ocean predators.<\/p>\n<p>The vision was filmed in the waters of a NSW South Coast beach. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/6e2e2ffb5081dcb9d1e93c7ec67eba96\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Shark spotted lurking off NSW coast\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts sheer size, along with the scars covering its body, told a story of age, survival, and a life spent navigating the challenges of the ocean,\u201d he captioned the post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery mark has likely been earned through countless encounters over many years as one of the ocean\u2019s most formidable predators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the remarkable clip left some of Mr Micallef\u2019s 32.6k followers in awe, it was also a grim reminder of the horrific Coogee Beach shark attack <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/travel\/travel-updates\/incidents\/shark-victims-brother-calls-drone-patrols-the-way-to-go-on-nsw-beaches\/news-story\/44f7f594e70d295529f293bdacb42982\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"44f7f594e70d295529f293bdacb42982\" data-tgev-label=\"travel\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that left a local mother fighting<\/a> for her life.<\/p>\n<p>Leah Stewart lost her arm and remains in intensive care on life support following the vicious attack which occurred last Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>She was swimming between the lifeguard flags and close to shore at the Sydney beach when the tragic incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeautiful footage, but which beach so I can avoid at all costs,\u201d one of Mr Micallef\u2019s followers commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood lord that\u2019s close to the shore as well,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n<p>A third commenter said: \u201cHoly smokes, this footage. What a creature of grace and beauty and awesomeness\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it scared the s**t out of me too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Micallef reassured viewers by explaining the shark appeared to be tagged on it\u2019s dorsal fin, suggesting it was being monitored.<\/p>\n<p>A GoFundMe for Ms Stewart has raised more than $458,000, with 6,700 donating towards the cause.<\/p>\n<p>One donor, who was a student at Sydney Adventist School when Ms Stewart was teaching in 2016, recounted how the teacher was a fan of TV show Survivor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friend and I had been watching Australian Survivor and were discussing the finale,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiss Stewart overheard \u2026 and quickly said \u2018don\u2019t tell me who won, I haven\u2019t seen it yet\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe then said she wanted to go on Survivor.
