The FIFA World Cup 2026<\/a> has featured punditry from an array of Old Trafford icons, from Wayne Rooney<\/a> to Gary Neville<\/a>. However, one ex-Manchester United legend is noticeably missing \u2013 Ryan Giggs<\/a>, who has stayed largely out of public view in the past few years.<\/p>\n

In an alternate reality, Giggs could be leading Wales out at this year’s tournament across the Atlantic, having taken over from Chris Coleman as national team manager in 2018. But he was forced to step down from the role in 2022 amid allegations of domestic abuse against his ex-partner.<\/a><\/p>\n

Giggs, 52, was first arrested on suspicion of assault in November 2020. He stood trial, with jurors failing to reach majority verdicts on charges that he had assaulted his former partner Kate Greville and her sister Emma during the incident.<\/p>\n

The jury also failed to reach a majority verdict on a charge of controlling and coercive behaviour over a three-year period. Throughout the case, a number of text messages were read aloud in court, while Giggs admitted to having been unfaithful in all of his previous relationships.<\/p>\n

A retrial was abandoned in 2023, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropping the charges after Greville said she felt “worn down” by the proceedings and could not face giving evidence again. Giggs has maintained a low profile ever since.<\/p>\n

He welcomed a new baby with his partner in 2024, while his sole active involvement in football of late has been as director of football at Salford City, the League Two club he previously co-owned alongside his Class of ’92 colleagues before a takeover in May of last year. <\/a>Nevertheless, he stepped down from that role several months ago amid reports that he is set to make a comeback as a manager and return to the spotlight.<\/p>\n

When discussing management and a potential return to the dugout, he said: “I loved managing Wales, obviously. I do miss it, so hopefully.” He opened up further on the subject during a chat with former team-mate Rio Ferdinand<\/a> on his podcast, revealing that he broke down while watching Wales compete at the Euros from his home.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the experience, he said: “It was heartbreaking. It was obviously a very difficult time because I’m watching it on TV. And I’m like…who did we score against? We scored against, I can’t remember if it was Turkey<\/a>. And we scored late on, and I’m jumping around the front room, and then all of a sudden, I look at the TV, and it’s all the staff and players jumping in the dugout, and I’m gone. Sat down and gone.”<\/p>\n

At the age of 50, Giggs and partner Zara Charles, who’s 14 years younger than him, welcomed a daughter, named Cora, on November 1, 2024. A representative for the former winger confirmed: “Ryan and his partner Zara are delighted to announce the birth of their daughter, Cora Giggs, who was born on Friday 1 November. They extend their warmest gratitude to all the amazing staff, especially the midwives, at Wythenshawe Hospital.”<\/p>\n

Cora is Giggs’ third child. He already has two children \u2013 Zach, 19, and Libby, 23 \u2013 from his marriage to Stacey Cooke.<\/p>\n

Zara, a lingerie model, moved in with Giggs into a seven-bedroom home in Greater Manchester<\/a>, bought for roughly \u00a32.1million. They recently enjoyed a romantic holiday to Barbados and regularly post loving pictures together on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Football prodigy son<\/p>\n

Giggs’ son Zach is a hugely talented footballer who plays for Wales U-19s and has the potential for a bright future in the game. He has been on the books at Sheffield United since leaving Manchester United’s academy in 2023.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old is also eligible to represent England, but has so far progressed through the age groups with Wales, having previously featured for the under-17s. He primarily operates as a left-back, though he was also used on the right and in the heart of defence during his time coming through the youth ranks at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
