At long last, House of the Dragon <\/a>season 3 is finally just hours away! Martin\u2019s Targaryen history book Fire & Blood<\/a>, though book fans will tell you the adaptation can be very loose with the source material. <\/p>\n

Like previous seasons (and other Game of Thrones shows), House of the Dragon season 3 takes the primetime Sunday night spot on HBO, meaning all episodes<\/a> will premiere at 9:00 p.m. ET every Sunday. The season will consist of eight episodes, with the finale scheduled for Sunday, August 9. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re watching the linear showing on the channel HBO (rather than streaming), you\u2019ll need to make sure your TV is turned on by exactly 9:00 p.m. ET tonight when the season 3 premiere begins. If you end up missing it, however, have no fear! According to HBO\u2019s schedule<\/a>, an encore showing will air directly after the premiere, starting at 10:13 p.m. ET. An additional showing will also air later in the night at 12:11 a.m. ET.<\/p>\n

But if you\u2019re streaming House of the Dragon on HBO Max, you\u2019ll be able to start watching at your leisure at any point when the episode drops at 9:00 p.m. ET. Game of Thrones\u2019 second spinoff series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/a>, threw fans for a loop with its shorter runtimes earlier this year. But House of the Dragon is a prestige drama, so you can expect the episodes to be in that hour-plus range. As we previously reported<\/a>, the season 3 premiere is confirmed to run for one hour and 13 minutes.<\/p>\n

This is one of the longest episodes in Game of Thrones franchise history, and given the Battle of the Gullet is confirmed to be a 25-minute sequence, it deserves the longer runtime. Fans will no doubt be excited to learn that the action-packed premiere won\u2019t be cut short.<\/p>\n

What to remember from season 2<\/p>\n

So now you\u2019ve got all the logistics of how and when to watch the House of the Dragon season 3 premiere. But what if you forget what happened last? It\u2019s been nearly two years since the prequel series was last on our screens, so we don\u2019t blame you if you need a refresher. Let\u2019s get into the biggest moments from season 2 you\u2019ll need to remember.<\/p>\n

After the season 1 finale, which saw Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) kill Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) while riding Vhagar, Team Black is out for blood. The season 2 premiere sees Daemon Targaryen <\/a>(Matt Smith) orchestrate the event which would later be known as \u201cBlood and Cheese,\u201d <\/a>when a rat-catcher and a criminal break into the Targaryen quarters of the Red Keep and kill one of Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Helaena Targaryen\u2019s (Phia Saban) children, Jaehaerys.<\/p>\n

This event causes a major rift between Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen <\/a>(Emma D\u2019Arcy), as though Daemon successfully pulled off a \u201cson for a son,\u201d Rhaenyra wanted Aemond\u2019s head, not an innocent child. Daemon leaves Dragonstone for Harrenhal and spends most of the season there, experiencing weird dreams and visions, working out some of his past alongside a suspected witch named Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin). Finally he manages to recruit an army for Rhaenyra\u2019s cause by the end of season 2.<\/p>\n

The big battle to remember from season 2 is the Battle at Rook\u2019s Rest<\/a>, where Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) flies on her dragon Meleys to fight against Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) and his army. Unexpectedly, both Aemond on Vhagar and Aegon on Sunfyre show up, and Aemond strikes down not only Rhaenys but his brother, too. Aegon ends up surviving\u2014barely\u2014though Rhaenys and Meleys die. It\u2019s believed Sunfyre dies too, but we know from Fire & Blood he\u2019s likely going to survive.<\/p>\n

With Aegon bedridden, the Small Council elects Aemond as Prince Regent against Alicent Hightower<\/a>\u2019s (Olivia Cooke) wishes. Meanwhile, needing more dragons, Rhaenyra recruits people from other houses claiming to have Valyrian blood to see if they can claim a dragon. This results in Addam of Hull (Clinton Hill), Ulf White (Tom Bennett), and Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) claiming dragons in an event that\u2019s now known as the \u201cRed Sowing\u201d<\/a> or the \u201cSowing of the Seeds.\u201d As it turns out, Addam, along with his brother Alyn, are actually Corlys Velaryon\u2019s (Steve Toussaint) bastards.<\/p>\n

Season 2 ends with the main players getting ready for more battles to come. Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall) recruits the Triarchy to join Team Green, Daemon sees a vision of Game of Thrones\u2019 Daenerys Targaryen, which restores his faith in Rhaenyra and the Prince That Was Promised prophecy, and Alicent heads to Dragonstone to make a bargain.<\/p>\n

And as Aegon and Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) flee King\u2019s Landing, Alicent offers Aegon\u2019s life to Rhaenyra to end the war. The former best friends agree that Rhaenyra will take the Iron Throne back in exchange for the usurper. This is how season 2 concludes, leaving viewers wanting so much more. And, fortunately, season 3 will give us that.<\/p>\n

Season 3 trailer<\/p>\n

Fans want action, and action is what they\u2019ll get in House of the Dragon season 3. The teasers and final trailer have proved that the show is going 0 to 100, and having seen the premiere myself, I can confirm there\u2019s a ton of excitement. The first two episodes of season 3 were initially planned for the ending of season 2, and it shows.<\/p>\n

What we can\u2019t wait to see from the premiere<\/p>\n

There are so many things we can\u2019t wait to see when House of the Dragon returns tonight. Of course, the big anticipated event in the season 3 premiere is the Battle of the Gullet. It\u2019s one of the biggest naval battles in all of Westeros history, and it will end in tragedy. This is one of the most devastating parts of Fire & Blood, and the show delivers. <\/p>\n

Showrunner Ryan Condal has hyped this up <\/a>as \u201carguably the craziest episode of television ever made,\u201d and the fans are ready to see if that\u2019s true.<\/p>\n

In addition to the big battle, we can\u2019t wait to see Daemon back fighting for Rhaenyra, instead of tripping out in a dark and dreary castle. Matt Smith has promised his character is back in full form this time around: \u201cHe\u2019s back and he\u2019s hellbent on cutting some throat and taking some souls,\u201d he declared<\/a> to ExtraTV.<\/p>\n

Rhaenyra is someone I always love to see on my screen, and the season 3 premiere is no different. She should be more confident as the new installment opens up, believing she\u2019s about to walk back into King\u2019s Landing and take what\u2019s rightfully hers. Emma D\u2019Arcy<\/a> is such a fantastic actor, and they bring complexity to every scene they\u2019re in.<\/p>\n

Aemond\u2019s storyline is another one I\u2019ve got a close eye on this season of House of the Dragon. Though he won\u2019t play a part in the Battle of the Gullet, he will have an expanded arc this season, and I have a feeling he\u2019s going to surprise viewers.<\/p>\n
