Wowcher has apologised \u201cunreservedly\u201d for \u201cunacceptable\u201d wording on an email which appeared to mock a crocodile attack on a three-year-old boy at a zoo.\n<\/p>\n
The boy is in a critical but stable condition at Addenbrooke\u2019s Hospital in Cambridge after Thursday\u2019s incident at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Huntingdonshire.<\/a><\/p>\n It is understood he was attacked by at least one crocodile after he was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure.<\/p>\n On Saturday, customers of the Wowcher e-commerce site opened up an email urging them to check out their \u201cspecial deals\u201d on getaways and activities, which was headlined: \u201cSnap up these deals quicker than a croc can catch a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n Outrage grew after screenshots of the email were shared across social media platforms and bulletin boards.<\/p>\n Norwich Norfolk UK Community Notice Board posted: \u201cWhy do wowcher think its ok to use this as a heading on their emails??\u201d<\/p>\n One customer described themselves as \u201cnow unsubscribed\u201d while another person condemned it as \u201cdisgusting\u201d, adding \u201cif that\u2019s real someone needs to be fired\u201d.<\/p>\n Another customer wrote: \u201cEmailed them back but no answer. Won\u2019t be using them again for sure, even if its a poor effort at a joke somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnsons of Old Hurst is a family-owned zoo.<\/p>\n Picture: ‘Unacceptable’<\/p>\n A spokesperson from Wowcher said: \u201cWe are extremely sorry for an email subject line sent by Wowcher yesterday.<\/p>\n \u201cThe wording was unacceptable. It should never have been written. It was never approved for use.<\/p>\n \u201cThe responsibility sits with us and we are urgently reviewing how our processes failed.<\/p>\n \u201cWe recognise the hurt and distress it has caused, particularly for the young child\u2019s family at this unimaginably difficult time.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are reviewing all scheduled marketing content while we urgently strengthen our creative, approval and sign-off safeguards.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is no excuse for this. We apologise unreservedly and will take the necessary steps to make sure this does not happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n Wowcher has apologised “unreservedly” for the email.<\/p>\n Picture: A 30-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the boy ended up in the enclosure reportedly has learning difficulties and had been on a trip with a carer.<\/p>\n Cambridgeshire Police said the arrested man, from Norfolk, was \u201cassessed as not being fit for interview\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n He has been released on bail until September 18.<\/p>\n Police were called to the zoo at 1.24pm on Thursday by the ambulance service to reports that the boy, who was not known to the man, had suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n Cambridgeshire Police said the boy \u201csustained serious injuries while in the enclosure\u201d and \u201cwas pulled out by staff from the zoo\u201d.<\/p>\n The boy was attacked by at least one crocodile during the ordeal.<\/p>\n Picture:![\"Johnsons](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/822477.webp\")
