{"id":651710,"date":"2026-06-22T06:15:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T06:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/651710\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T06:15:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T06:15:15","slug":"west-bay-sewer-outfall-extension-in-1967-to-tackle-pollution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/651710\/","title":{"rendered":"West Bay sewer outfall extension in 1967 to tackle pollution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  A MAJOR project in West Bay in the 1960s saw a sewer outfall extended at West Bay.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The extension was built in 1967 under East Beach to discharge sewage 950 metres out to sea from a pumping station next to Station Yard Car Park.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This wasn&#8217;t the first time the pipe had been extended as an abatement to pollution and some called for a modern system and a sewage farm to cure the nuisance.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There was also concern about the effect currents would have on the pipe and divers having to be engaged to repair it, requiring calm waters off Chesil Beach.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A buoy with yellow flashing light marks the outlet.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A photographic record of the construction was kept by Bridport Museum and above is one of the photos showing the major building work taking place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A MAJOR project in West Bay in the 1960s saw a sewer outfall extended at West Bay.
