At the current rate of \u00a312,547.60 a year, replicating the State Pension through a portfolio requires roughly \u00a3313,690 saved. At least, that\u2019s how large a portfolio needs to be when following the 4% withdrawal rule.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s assume a portfolio matches the UK stock market\u2019s long-run 8% average return a year with a low-cost index tracker. If the goal is to retire at 65, a 40-year-old today would need to invest around \u00a3330 a month, which would steadily compound into \u00a3313,838 after 25 years.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s a pretty straightforward strategy to target better financial security in retirement. But sadly, it may not be enough. And this is where stock-picking can come to the rescue.<\/p>\n
A decade of exceptional compounding<\/p>\n
